1905 front Sight

I’m finally happy with front sight on 1905 32/20 that I been working on. Some previous owner had it milled for adjustable sight and front blade cut off and slotted shank. Gun is really nice but the front had a lot to be desired. At .059” it wasn’t a good fit with rear notch.
I filled 2 sights out of a brass key. I could have lived with one but I couldn’t get brass to black. Whatever brass alloy Wally Word uses in their keys must be good stuff. Anyway decided I wanted steel blade. Got it shaped and fitted to slot. Have it blacked with marker and have to shoot before final mounting, to made sure height will allow for adjustment. When tuned I’m going drill for bead and blue.

I applaud you for fixing this sight issue yourself. After you regulate the sight height and reblue it, may I suggest using solid pins rather than roll pins as they will IMO give a more professional look. I never personally cared for the look of roll pins as long as I have a choice.

I would never use a roll pin. Only a true Dipstick would even consider it. I was stuck with the three holes when I bought the gun. It may have been necessary to anchor the thin .060” blade.
When I received this gun the front sight had cut through packing and had side to side flop from beating around during shipping. I used brass bar on brass block to give shank a couple whacks to tighten up the slot. As good as sight is fit now it would still require two pins.Already have new pins made out of drill bits. Using 3 just to fill holes.
