I have been shopping for my first 1911, which seems like and endless task, and ran into an e series at a LGS for $729. The SKU is 108482 and has a list price of $919 on the S&W site.

I also spotted a S.A. Loaded, parkerized, night sights, at another LGS for $859.

Any thoughts on these two 1911's and their prices would be appreciated. I'm ready to purchase and these two have caught my eye.

I have the smith and it is one of the best 1911's that I have ever owned. I have 2 K rds through it now and it has been flawless while being scary accurate. I'm sure the S A is a good gun but get the smith and get a great gun. Best of luck and be sure to let us know what you do.

I recently traded a 19-4 for a SW1911 and it is my current favorite of my 1911's! It has been flawless so far and is superbly accurate!

I was looking for a long time for a 1911 E series, the best price I found was $825.00 that is a great price. You will not find one cheaper.

Great input, thanks. It is a sweet looking gun for sure and glad to hear it shoots good as well.

Any thoughts on the price. $729 seemed good to me for the E-series based on the bit of internet research I've done.

If you can get one for $729 then that's a great deal. I paid $850 out the door for mine about a year and half ago.

I bought this identical model off GB last December. I haven't looked at prices on them for several months but at about $817 it was the second lowest price one had sold for when I bought it and for several months later.

I would buy another one at $729.

Also, if the phrase "Made in USA" means anything to you then the choice is pretty clear.

Double Taps from the holster at about 10 yards.

About 1,700 rounds so far.

I have owned the SA fully loaded. It was nice but failed to load reliably.
That was 6 or 7 yrs. ago. I have owned Colt, Norinco, Star, Sig and others. I now own a S&W E-series 1911 stainless and it has been flawless. I highly recommend the E-series 1911 (same one as above). You will not be sorry!

Good luck, but I'm afraid if anyone that like 1911's see's that..... be hard to pass on. I was in my LGS a week or so ago and saw a 1911 3" Pro for $650..... I didn't have the money to spend on it.... but I left with it 10 minutes later...

I bought mine about 10 months age. It is extremely well balanced and very, very accurate. One of my favorite guns to shoot. Get it while the getting's good.

Hope you got the new e-series today flyrobb and are to busy shooting, that you can't post a range report and some pics.

Man you guys are good. Yes, I managed to loose the entire post the first time. Here we go again.

Yes, I went to the store today and there it was, like a puppy in the pound, just begging me to take it home. How could I resist!

Best part, I had $470 in gift cards, so all said and done I only had to pony up $325 out of the gun fund. There was only one mag in the box so they threw in a Wilson. Didn't have a chance to get to the range but man is that a sweet looking gun!

Thanks for all the input and gentle "nudges" to get me down there and get my first 1911...and to Justicetyme, "Made in the USA" makes it that much sweeter!

Ouch...Just watched the Cardinals get beat. At least my new Smith helps take the sting out.

Finally got to the range to shoot the new E Series. I have to say, being a rookie 1911er, I really, really liked the way it shot. Started at 10 yards and went through about 60 rounds and felt pretty good. Pulled the Glock 19 out, which I have about 1000 rounds through, and couldn't hit squat? So with about 25 rounds left I moved the target to 5 yards just to compare the two at close range. Check out the target pic's. For me the 1911 grouping was pretty good. The Glock, not so good. I'm a bit puzzled by the Glock since I have shot it much better in the past. I did have one FTF(feed)with the Smith, out of 100 rounds from the Mec-Gar Mag . Was shooting Federal 230g target. Almost forgot I shot about 10 rounds at the 30yd metal and to my surprise I dinged 7.

1911's are so superior to anything else in terms of ease of shooting and practical accuracy that is usually a shock to folks who haven't used them or compare them to other autos at the range.

The biggest issue is that the manual of arms is seemingly more demanding than that of the Glock, S&W products and their ilk.

Hard to believe that a 100+ year old design is better than modern Tupperware, but it's true

S&W's version is inferior to the standard Colt, but at a price-point that makes it serviceable in many instances.

I don't know why you're had a ftf in the first 100 rounds.

I can tell you that I've never had a ftf with a Colt.
