1911 E-Series won't chamber first round

Just bought a SW1911CT and am having an issue with the factory mags. When they are fully loaded they will not chamber the first round as it just stays in the mag. I have disassembled them and cleaned out and lightly lubed even though they are new figuring maybe it would help. I have left them fully loaded with 8 rounds for about 2 days with still the same results. I had bought 2 Wilson Combat 47D mags that work fine when fully loaded. Any ideas ?

Are you sure they are 8 round mags? Sounds like they may seven rounders.

Start out by getting rid of the lube in the mags. Then load them up and let them sit for a few weeks.

If that doesn't work you may have to tune them.

Yes. That gun comes with 8 round mags and they are physically the same size as the Wilson mags and it takes about the same amount of pressure to get all 8 in.

If the Wilsons work and the factory mags don't, I think it is obvious that the factory mags are out of spec. Call S&W and describe the problem, and see if they'll send you out some mags that will work.

If you are good at measuring, you can compare feedlips (I suspect the bad mags are tight) and even the mag latch cut out relative to the lips. You may gain an insight as to what is going on that way. But, fwiw, better to invest in Wilson or other good mags than suffer with unreliable ones. I have just chucked factory magazines in a drawer and used mags I knew were good more than once. HTH

I have two of the same mags with zero problems. Try slapping the back of the mag a couple times in your palm of hand. In the pic of the loaded mag it looks like the bullet is sitting nose down, it needs to be pointing upward a little in the mag and by slapping the mag should correct this. Hope this helps.

I have tried slapping them. I can actually physically pull the bullet up and when I let go it drops back down to that position. If I only load 7 bullets into the factory mags they work fine. Calling S&W is probably the best bet. I think I may look up their customer support number.

It sounds like there is a mag problem. Make sure you post what S&W have to say. Best of luck and hope it works out.

Take them apart and trim maybe 1/16" off the bottom of the follower.

First thing I do is put the factories away and use CMC Power Plus.
Other will say Wilson 47D, Coke or Pepsi.

After very exhaustive testing we approved the CMC P+ and W47D.

It will feed an empty case at 12, 3, 6 and 9. No better test.
