Brand new sc with 400 rounds thru it now has the finish coming off the frame under the safety lock and one side of the trigger. Anybody with similar issues...

Are you refering to the light scratch lines that show the trigger has been going in and out and the safety has been going up and down? My new 1911 E series is doing the same thing. I don't like it but I think it might not be abnormal. Maybe someone else will tell us.

Your probably right, a normal wear pattern on the trigger but the black finish coming off the frame under the safety lever is disturbing especially after spending top $ for this Pistol.

Just got off the phone with Smith and Wesson and was told that this is normal because of the tight fit between the safety and the frame. They offered to refinish it but claim it will happen again because of the tight fit. Maybe next time I'll go with a better quality unit like a Nighthawk....lesson learned.

Different area of the gun, same problem. I have a brand new PC 1911 and the area under the barrel scuffs against the frame each time it is racked open. It actually came that way from the factory as I haven't fired it yet!

Nighthawk's are great firearms, no doubt, but I'm not sure I'm willing to pay $2000 more to eliminate a handing mark. I have the Sc and, yes, it scratched under the safety...outside of that it is a fine 1911 that is good looking, reliable and accurate.

IMHO the S&W Sc is not a "top $$" 1911 as suggested but IS a quality firearm that should serve you well for years. I always dread the first handling mark on a new gun but that's the price we pay to actually shoot it! As much as I would love to have an Ed Brown or a Nighthawk I can't imagine owning such a thing unless I had endless gun money...would have to handle it with gloves, rarely shoot it, and can you imagine the agony over the first scratch on a $3500 gun?

I have a 6904 that shows it's mileage but, boy, do I love that gun! I can carry it, shoot it, throw it around a bit and never sweat it. I get so much enjoyment from all my guns (safe queens included) but my true favorites are the one's that are on my hip giving me piece of mind and that I don't have to baby.

Do I like the mark under the safety on my Sc?...no. Am I satisfied with the Sc and would I buy it again?...you bet.:)

To ihump1961....your right...I just was very disappointed to have such a wear mark only after 1 week of ownership, especially since here in NJ the 1911sc can't be found and had to pay retail....I guess I'll give it more time and enjoy the fine pistol....

It is NOT a wear problem....it is developing its own attitude and character!! All of my herd has it's own character and attitude....earned honestly because I use them all..........

Sort of like putting new tires on the car and then complaining because after 400 miles they don't look like brand new tires anymore...
