I picked these up yesterday at a swap meet for a song. My Pro CDP was handy, so I took a couple of minutes and fitted them to the gun. I needed to clear the back for the MS housing pin and the ambidextrous safety arm. They’re pretty thick and heavy, but they fit my large hands really well and I love the aged look.

Any idea on the type of stag. They don’t appear to be Sambar and I’m thinking elk, because of the porosity on the back. Any ideas?

Good looking antler whatever kind it is, I think if the top and bottom of the grips were slightly beveled it would improve the look greatly.

I agree 100%. I was also thinking of thinning the right panel, just a bit.

I’m concerned about beveling the ends because I don’t want to expose the porosity and lose the aged color. I’ve tried to “improve” grips in the past and ended up doing more harm than good. I was nervous about relieving the back, but it worked out really well.

If you keep your angle of cut at a higher degree your less likely to get into the porous part but even if you do it's easy to back fill with some epoxy and sand down.
I've never made a set of grips before but I have used American Elk for a few knife handles and some black powder pistol flasks.
