1911

Oil leaks today are judged by Japanese bikes which all split cases horizontally. Like a cup holding all fluids. This makes them wide, perfect for multi fours.
Vertical split cases are susceptible to leaks. All of the English bikes except Nortons leak oil like a sieve because they have lousy machining. Pre AMF HDs had excellent machining and the cases had no gaskets, just two machined parts joining. They NEVER leaked unless some idiot put them together. K model flatheads didn't even have head gaskets, they simply used silver paint. AMF in their first '72 Sportsters revived a 30's style Indian clutch release and a host of other stupid ideas to make them cheaper. Early Sportsters and big twins would sump up the cases if let sit for weeks and a squirt of oil would come out the breather when starting, beyond that they were definitely not oil leakers. Triumphs, BSAs and Vincents were all big oil leakers, their fasteners were too soft and would stretch too.

Meandering threads are nothing new but how did a 1911 thread become a leaky motorcycle engine thread? Kind of an extraordinary diversion, far more than usual...but I make that remark in an amusing way.

The leaky motorcycle engine thread rerouting is probably as worthwhile as the original thread.

I was desperate....my bad mouthing plastic guns had driven me into a corner...I was trapped...then someone mentioned motorcycles........

No harm done; it may have been a rescue of sorts. The original thread had deteriorated to the point it probably needed to die a natural death, a common problem with most threads that go beyond a couple of pages.

I certainly learned a lot....plastic guns are the greatest invention of modern man. I thought for a minute I was in the UK, having an opinion was going to get me arrested. But thankfully at 81 I've converted over to the bright side and going to get out my 9mm Shield and have someone load the magazines and rack it for me and shoot holes in a piece of paper at 15 feet and become a serious shooter. Thanks for the support Rock...

Of course that was legal, and I never said otherwise.

What I did say is that the dewats had to have been registered for that to have been legal.
These never were dewats. Back "in the day" this is how illegal MG's were made legal. I knew several dewats of friends that had dewat paperwork and generally plugged barrels. Thos friends sold theirs then too.

If they weren’t dewats, what were they? 🤔

This is what you said: “I had to caw cut receivers and he did the paperwork to rewat them.”

How were they re-watted, if they weren’t dewats?

They were made into literal non guns - not even dewats. The Class 7 rewelded & machined them and they thus became legal , even with their original serial. Dewats were MG's welded up and or barrels plugged . After GCA 68 these dewats had to be registered. If they were at any time with the right paperwork they could be re-wated & registered as an MG , before may '86 of course.

Before you saw cut the receivers, were they legal MG’s (or dewats), on the registry?
