I am no expert, but I don't believe they made grip adapters until later than that- maybe not until the '30s?

I'm not familiar with any WWI era grip adaptor either. I might be wrong, but I've had 1917 revolvers for nigh on 40 years and I would have noticed one.
You can probably get a Tyler T Grip for it as it is an N Frame and I use these on several N and K frame revolvers with very good results.

I believe a grip adapter for a Registered Magnum would fit, but it wouldn't quite be period correct since they weren't produced until 1935. I think that is about as close to period correct as you'll find though.
Do the stock not fit your hand well enough? Generally N-frame stocks are plenty big enough to get a good grip, even service stocks, unless you have some REALLY huge mitts.

I don't care for the skinny little stocks they put on 1917's either, Ken Driskill made a set of thicker elk antler stocks that fit as near to perfect as you could ask for in a non-target style. You can find him on this website: bigmtnman

Are you asking about a S&W grip adapter or the Tyler type grip adapter?
The S&W adapter came out in the 30s(?) and was available on at least the Registered Magnum.
The Mershon grip adapter also came out in the 30s. They were bought out by Pachmyer in the 50s. There were T type adapters with the S&W shield on them and they were made by Pachmyer.
I have used the T type adapter with service and Magna stocks and am quite satisfied with them.

I wanted thicker grips for my 1917. I found out that S&W N frame target grips would fit, if I cut a notch out of the bottom for the lanyard loop.

Most people here would recoil in horror at the idea of cutting a notch in a set of otherwise original target stocks. If you want to try that, I suggest you find some already-modified targets or better still, some aftermarket stocks.
