I have a 1917 with aftermarket nickel plating. They plated the trigger and the hammer, so I thought I'd buy replacements to swap out. The trigger went in and functioned perfectly on the first try. The hammer( I have two of them) seemed to rub everywhere. I go it to the point where it almost worked, but the head of the hammer is hitting on the sides of the cutout into the frame. I've tried carefully filing to widen that slot, but so far no luck. The hammer has nice case colors, so I don't want to sand it down. The second hammer hits hard on the large arc at the rear of the hammer, and will not turn at all once dropped in place.

I bought some nickel stripper to use to strip the original hammer, but I had concerns about using it in my garage.

Is this something I should just give up on or does anyone have any ideas.

So i pulled the 3rd model apart to see if I could use the parts i bought to replace the nickeled ones. It's probably a bust. The trigger is missing a hole for one of the pins to hold the hand lever (l
?) in the trigger. Also learned why the trigger pull on this 44 was so smooth. Someone bent the mainspring (the right side of the photo). I had a spare ( on the left) so I swapped it. Next step nickel stripper.

You faked me out there. I didn't realize you were working with a Colt 1917, not a S&W 1917.

As long as that mainspring is reliably busting primers, I'd leave it in.

Can you post a picture of the trigger you need? I have a few spares.[/QUOTE

Is it ok to continue using the bent spring? So far I've not had any issues with light strikes.

The trigger I bought is missing the small pin hole. Even if it had it, not sure how easily I could reassemble it.

If you have one that is correct, I would be interested. Thanks
