I have a 1917 with aftermarket nickel plating. They plated the trigger and the hammer, so I thought I'd buy replacements to swap out. The trigger went in and functioned perfectly on the first try. The hammer( I have two of them) seemed to rub everywhere. I go it to the point where it almost worked, but the head of the hammer is hitting on the sides of the cutout into the frame. I've tried carefully filing to widen that slot, but so far no luck. The hammer has nice case colors, so I don't want to sand it down. The second hammer hits hard on the large arc at the rear of the hammer, and will not turn at all once dropped in place.
I bought some nickel stripper to use to strip the original hammer, but I had concerns about using it in my garage.
Is this something I should just give up on or does anyone have any ideas.
