How'd that "other" one get in the picture?

I don't know how that (ugh) colt got in there -but I would be glad to take it off your hands so it wouldn't be sneeking into any more pics.
Then you could post a bigger pic of your S&W!

All nice examples, guys. However, no one has shown the Model of 1917 Revolver in a contemporary setting. Given that it is Armistice Day today I'll fix that. Lest we forget.

Here is a Doughboy with his .45 Revolver carried in a Model of 1909 holster, along with the three cell pouch for the half moon clips of ammunition.

Regards,
Charlie Flick

Here is my old girl. There is a Colt in the safe that has seen better days but I have plans for her beyond a collectable. Unfortunately I have found out through a friend my wife has gotten me a 98%+ Colt 1917 for Christmas. My surprise will still be genuine, I gurantee.

Do have to admit that the Colts were horrible in their trigger pull both SA and DA.

jjones,
The trigger-pull on the S&W's was nothing to celebrate, either!

The Commercial seems to be a bit more 'hand friendly, though.

Good show Bob! You've got all the neat stuff to go with your revolver which looks like an early production gun.

It'd be fun to see this thread continue a bit longer. It's gratifying to see these grand old 1917's.

Na, his was "Issued" by Black Jack Himself! MAK

OK, Bruce, Bryan and Mike. You caught me. It WAS issued new to me on January 15, 1918. But I got it all dinged up a few months later in the Meuse-Argonne...but WE WON!

(Sure wish I'd kept that Kraft box like Bruce did)

Bob (I don't know where Charlie got that picture of me.)

Here's my first. DHENRY is the first I've seen with a lower serial # than mine, which is 1641. I wonder why his doesn't have a grooved hammer? These are great guns.

These new guns are nice, but there is something about the older ones that have the nice carbonia bluing, nice case colors and handfitting with no hammer lock. Even in poor or well refinished condition they seem timeless.

Looks like that old Colt was parkerized. Many still in US stocks were done so during refurbishing.

depicts,
The grooved hammer disappeared before the concave grips did.
A needless machining expense for a government-contract gun.
Additionally, the swapping out of parts by many arsenal rebuilders produced some interesting combinations of hammers and grips.
Roy says the grooved hammer disappeared at about # 25000.
The U.S. Government requested that the grooved hammer be discontinued in January of 1918.
My gun shipped on March 15th of 1918.
The dished grips continued for a time in very early '18, then were replaced by the rounded model.
