1917 Question

Hi guys...Im posting this question for a good friend of mine:
I bought this S&W to be all matching numbers. The numbers match bottom of the barrel, cylinder face and bottom butt of the gun. There is a different number on the frame where the crane closes against the frame and the frame number matches the crane number. My question is: Is this a all numbers matching gun?

Look for serial number on the inside of the right stock panel.

The other areas you would need to look are inside the stock panel as mentioned already, as well as under the extractor star and on the inside of the crane. The other numbers on the frame and crane you mentioned are assembly numbers and don’t really mean much.

I would reinstall the butt swivel (lanyard loop) and pin. They are available.

Yep it's all matching. Those other numbers meant something in the factory. Not now.

The number in the yoke area is a Assembly tracking number which means nothing outside the factory. It is an all numbers matching gun.

It’s an all matching gun if the 6 serial # locations posted above all match. The serial # referenced above on the inside of the yoke (actually on the rear surface of the yoke) can only be seen with the cylinder swung open and looking thru one chamber.

There’s 3 assembly #s that must match: the two you found on frame and yoke, and one on the inside surface of the side plate. Must be removed to see it.
