1924 Postcard to S&W

I have been sorting through all my gun stuff and I noticed that I had a post card which had been gifted to me. I am not certain where the guy who gave it to me got it, but I thought I should scan it in and this would be a good place to put it for posterity.

Being 1924 I wonder what he meant by "44 Reinforced". Trying to order a Wolf and Klar model a bit before they came out maybe?

Many folks preferred the enclosed ejector shroud of the Triple Lock and wanted to buy one. That's why Wolf & Klar placed a large order in the 1920s, knowing the demand was there.

They did.
Cops especially, though many, if not most, cops would have it delivered to their office. Their is an 11% federal excise tax on guns and ammo that the manufacturer pays. That tax is built into the cost of S&Ws. Cops are exempt when guns and ammo are ordered for "official duty". Gov't agencies like PDs and Sheriff's Offices are also exempt. So, a cop could order a gun on the dept letterhead for "duty use" and avoid that 11% tax.
S&W even had a form to fill out saying it was tax exempt.

My Registered Magnum was ordered by a distributor in Washington, D.C. in 1937 and shipped by S&W directly to the home of the person who ordered it from them (in Chicago, IL). Common practice at least up through the 1930s. Most of the invoices I have looked at from the 50s and 60s indicate shipment to a sporting goods store, distributor, or jobber.

Back in my cop days, I could get a purchase order from the city for a duty use firearm and not only skip paying the taxes, the city would deduct $10 a paycheck until it was paid off.
