I have never seen or heard of any changer that would take pennies. I guess I'm not too old [or young] to learn something new. As evidenced by the posts, there must have been machines that took pennies. Working in the business for the last 33 years, I thought I knew better. This forum is great as the knowledge you pick up amazing!:D

1950 soft drinks

Well, that's a trip down memory lane. Remember Orange Crush? I remember when Cokes were 6 cents in the machine.
Yep, I've told folks about the vending machines that took 6 cents (nickel and a penny) they don't seem to want to believe me either, I remember we lived down the street from the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla, and there was a park next to it, had hot dog vendors and vending machines that took 6 cents for a drink
olcop:D

All you disbelievers and naysayers back, back, in the corner. Behave. Sit still don't make me use this whip.

Am I mean? No, this was my 2nd grade teacher back when you could take 1 nickel and 1 penny, put it in the red Coke machine, push down on the lever and get a 8 OZ coke. It popped out at about 33 degrees and would literally take your breath on a hot day.

For those that have to see or touch an object to believe it is real, that would be those with an underdeveloped potential in believing others, report to the principles office. I will instruct him to use the 2 handed paddle that the shop teacher drilled full of holes for maximum velocity.

Jimmy I remember most of the sodas. What I now know is that was the best time of my life and I was too wet behind the ears, too young, too inexperienced and totally lacking in maturity to enjoy it. And it was because I kept my eyes glued to the ground looking for stray nickles and pennies.......

Way back in the mid '70's, when I bought this small ranch, I was rootin thu the old sheds and buildings and found a TON of old soda bottles. Still a nickel in those days so I sold them. Still a few floating around but no one buys them now.

Went into a store on the other side of town and saw a couple of bottles of Moxie. I didn' know they still made it; last time I saw any was when I was a teenager and my father brouht some home to show me.

When did they stop making Vin Fizz?

The Mini-Max grocery store I worked at after school in 1963 and 1964 had the 6 cent coke machines and two cent deposit on bottles. We had one part time employee that all he did was arrange and stack various glass bottles that were returned for deposit and get them sorted so the various venders could pick them up.

The first Coke machine I used was 6 cents.
Or you could get one from the drink box that was 5 cents..
they sit in cool water.
