THIS is why I drink Islay single malts

Is Talisker healthy? It's from Skye, not Islay, but it is 10 year old single malt. Kroger was closing out some of their slow movers a few years back and I bought all the single pot Redbreast and Talisker they had on the clearance shelf. This is my only remaining survivor... :(

When I filled out a questionaire at the doctor's office one of the questions was "Do you drink" to which I answered "yes" Next question was "frequency?" To which I answered "PRN".
Rusty knows what that means...

Is Talisker healthy?
Och, ye are askin' the wrong question, mon! (And remember, the Gaelic original of "whisky" - uisge beatha - means "water of life".) "D'ye like it?" is all ye need to know. It's slightly peppery as I recall. Excellent stuff.

$31.99? You made out like bandit!. Current price at our liquour stores is about $88.45 US equiv.

I've posted this before, but back in 1996, CBC's "Ideas" programme sent their host, Paul Kennedy to Scotland to do a feature on single malts. Talk about "died and gone to heaven." It's nearly an hour long but a good listen, esp. if you have a glass of the good stuff at hand. Link here.
"Robert Burns proclaimed: "Freedom and whisky gang togither!" Single malt whisky remains one of Scotland's most poetic exports. As part of a series celebrating Paul Kennedy's fifteen years as host of IDEAS, we dust off this venerable warhorse from the 1996 season. It's Paul Kennedy's no-holds-barred celebration of single malt Scotch Whisky, conveyed in the loving words of the men and women who make it."

Well, if you can find it in the US, I recommend "cask strength Edradour" Smallest distillery in Scotland, just North of the Highland Line. I found it years ago on one of my trips back to the UK. You used to be able to get it in the Whisky stores at Heathrow but these changed hands. Now only in Edinburgh, and a few stores in of all places, New Jersey. Still locking up my few bottles left as I foolishly introduced it to my son, and bottles kept wandering!!! Dave_n

Bought, and consumed it several times visiting family in Edinburgh.
Family could have any single malt they wanted in Scotland; this is what they always showed up with.

I don't disagree with the premise, but there's no reason you have to drink single-malts that taste like landscaping. I find the peaty Islay whisky as palatable as gym sock tea. That's some skanky stuff.

There are plenty of good Speyside distilleries. My favorite is the Glenfarclas 105 that is cask-strength. Don't drink a lot of it as it's a bit pricey.
