I dropped by my LGS today and they have an excellent condition snubbie 1950 Colt Lawman on consignment for $1600. I am actually in the market for an S&W pre-lock Model 19 or 66, but the Colt is interesting. $1600 is more than I was looking to spend. Is it worth that much?

$1600 for a used Colt MKIII?, when you can get a nice S&W model 28-2 for half of that? No way under the sun.

I went to a local show yesterday and one dealer had a 99% 28-2 4" in the box marked at $1250. Another had 2 Trooper MKIII not in the box for $1600 each. A like new nickel 6" Python was over $5000 and 2 like new Diamondbacks, 4" and a 6", one in the box and the other a partial box were $2200 and $2800.

I see these same dealers every show and they don't seem to sell any high end guns but drag them from show to show pushing the price up every show hoping they'll get a sucker to buy. Another example, I've been to three shows in the past 5 or so weeks. One guy has a like new .32 2nd issue Detective special. Last show it was $1000 and yesterday it was $1100. Another guy has a lot of Smith J frame 22's. He's been carrying the same model 63 for a while and the price has risen from $800 to $1100.

Way too much!! Some dealers and pawn shop owners think that they are justified in adding another $400 or $500, or more, to a handgun just cause it has C-O-L-T on the barrel. As stated, you can find a vintage Smith revolver in excellent shape for half of that asking price. Good luck.
