Could someone give me some information on this 5" barrel, 5 screw .38 Special. I am told it is from the early 1950s. Serial # C 3388XX. It has an old Pachmayer grip adapter. The grips are numbered to the frame.

It's a Military & Police Model likely from 1955-56. Becomes the Model 10 when numbers assigned in 1957.

Already noted, I guess. Anything else?

Agree, that SN would put shipment from late 1955 to early 1956. It would be called a pre-Model 10 M&P by collectors, as the Model 10 marking began in 1957.

Welcome to the forum.

Five inchers were less common than four and six inchers but more common than two inch snubs. Yours is a five . It appears its roll stamps were filled with silver. In the 1970s and into the 80s it was common to add gold with readily available inexpensive kits. Fewer owners added silver. Otherwise it look original except for the grip adapter.

Edit: On second thought might the silver or white roll marks just be highlighting done with your magic computer?

Thanks for the feedback. It's a pleasure to shoot with my 148 and 158 gr hand cast reloads, and surprisingly accurate. I use a white lacquer fill-in stick to bring out markings. Some guys don't like it, but it does bring out the symbols well without harming the piece.
