1953 K-22 Set Complete!

Well, apart from the Nox-Rust paper, and with a lot of help and advice from the S&W Forum members, I completed the set today!

It's a shooter and not a museum piece, but it's all there finally.

What a great hobby!

Yes, it's late 1940's, so it could've been shot in a '53.
I have some early '50's ammo on the way!

Congrats Doc,
First rate set-up. But they are no fun to simply
just look at. Took these two to the range today
for some fun with bowling pins and paper targets.

2 one-liners, one is a 1947 gun and the other is an early 1948
This picture taken right before they got their "bath" after a day
at the range. I've got gold boxes for both but since i've had these
two they have not been in them. The triggers/actions on these guns
just amaze me. A lot of fun.

I shot a rimfire silhouette match with mine last month.

Strangely enough, the action was very bad when I got it.

It just hadn't been shot much and the cylinder lock wasn't machined well.

Local gunsmith tuned the action to smooth as silk as it should be.

GREAT shooters they are.

The ammo boxes are a nice touch. I'm always on the lookout for those old boxes. If you stop at any yard sales, be sure to ask for "any old stamps, coins, firearms, ammunition, or accessories". You might be surpirsed what the pull out of the junk pile.

It appears a little too long to me.

Of the correct ones I've seen in pictures here, they are bronze/copper, twisted, looped end, but a little shorter.

I have another one coming in the mail, so we can do a comparison.

Now I see. It does look longer than the cylinder. It must be a rifle brush vs. a handgun.

I knew, "kit" wouldn't be appropriate, and I settled for "set" knowing that wasn't exactly right either.

It's kind of like finding an obscure word for a "collection or grouping" of something, much like a "murder" of crows or "gaggle" of geese.

However, in this case rather than express multiples of one, I needed a word to express completeness of multiple yet different parts.

"Complete K-22 package", I think, is a superior description.

Do we have any other cunning linguists who can contribute?

I believe the long brush came with the Model 41 semi auto that you can run the brush all the way thru the barrel before reversing it. At least that's what mine came with. The long brush won't exit a revolver barrel completely so when you reverse direction with part still in the barrel it crimps the bristles of the brush and it no longer fits tight.

These older K22s have to be shot to be truly appreciated, unless ofcourse you have a pristine one. I love mine.

I shoulda put a little smiley face so you would know I was pulling your leg a bit but I did open your post and expect a "Pair" of 53's but Im glad you enjoyed the slight correction of nonmenclature .

Incidentally some might argue that because the "Heavy Masterpiece" was a cataloged item as of 1950 there are actually 3 different K22's in a complete 1953 K22 "set",

Others might argue the K22 "Heavy" Masterpiece didnt actually appear until 54/55 and so would not belong ....

Without the Nox-Rust paper, I think this is about as close as I can get to replicating everything that came with a 1953 K-22 Masterpiece.

Just bought a Pro-Shot all bronze/copper, pistol brush with the looped tip.
About as close as I could find.

And credit to my daughter for the latest pictures.
