Have a flat-latch model 36, 1961, box, papers, clean rod, manual, ....even original sales receipt.... Very tough to open the cylinder. Latch is hard to push, and cylinder doesn't open. I've taken the side plate off, cleaned, oiled, etc. no luck. Can parts for this pistol be found...in case I need some latch part...? Any info would be appreciated. Thanx.

Parts are available. Gun Parts Corp among others. Try checking the extractor rod. It seems very likely that it has unscrewed slightly. You can shim the cylinder lock with a piece of paper like a business card or dollar bill, and then spin the cylinder to tighten the rod back up. Remember it has a reverse thread. You might have to use something to prevent the rod from turning. Try not to mar it in the process.

Put a drop or two of oil on the pin under the barrel lug from each end and try to open the cyl. Take a small screw driver and push it in between the extractor rod and the angled end of the pin. They some times stick if the gun is not used for a long time.

I had the same problem. Finally figured out the pin that sticks up on the cylinder itself was a little gummed up thus making it difficult for the latch to push it in (I kept thinking it was the latch itself).

A few drops of Kroil on and in the central workings of the cylinder and all was right with the world.

I believe that the old lubricants have congealed, leaving behind wax. I'd keep cleaning as described above. Good luck.

I've also found that if the ejector rod has somehow slightly unscrewed it will cause difficulty in releasing the cylinder.
