1971 model 60 spring question

what's everyone's thoughts on a spring kit from wolff. I've used them on my sig and had good luck. I was thinking about changing the hammer spring and the rebound spring in my j frame. This should reduce DA pull and smooth it up? Do these guns need any polishing/stone work? I would have a smith do the work of course. I don't carry this gun so that's not a factor in trigger weight.

What you are suggesting will likely work fine. Even if it will not be a carry gun you want it to fire reliably so you don't want the springs too light.
 
In my experience, J frames are more touchy than Ks about light springs. Having it smooth first is important.

I've got a 1976 vintage Mod 60, and the mainspring is just fine, but I did put a 14 lb return spring in it and effectively lightened the trigger pull. I did a light stone job when it was apart. I will carry this one, and I never change a mainspring on a carry gun.
 
I would have it smoothed but wouldn't change the springs on a J frame.

I've tried it a couple times and it never works. Ignition becomes unreliable - regardless if its a carry gun or not. IMHO; J frames have stiff trigger pulls and that's just the way it is. To get a lighter pull, you have to move up to a K frame. Even then, you'll never get a light pull (less than 8-10 lbs) in a S&W like you will in a sig, CZ, Glock, etc. (Double Action. Single Action in the revolver will be lighter than the semi auto). I'm sure some will disagree with this view.

I usually just change to a lighter return spring. My older j-frames don't seem to need lightening up, but some of the newer ones do. I changed both the return spring and the mainspring on my daughter's 442. She was struggling with second and third shots in rapid fire strings. The lighter springs did the trick. We immediately shot two hundred rounds without ignition problems, and have fired a couple of hundred more in practice sessions, so I figure it is good to go. I changed to lighter main and return springs in my recently acquired 651 .22 magnum. As I feared I got a lot of ignition failure--at least two rounds out of each cylinder. I quickly put the stock mainspring back in the gun.
