1980 Model-57 New In Box....A photo essay!

I bought my 8 3/8" 57 on New Years Eve 1979. I don't recall opening the shipping box etc. I imagine a lot of dealer's trashed the shipping box and even the blue box and then displayed the guns in the presentation case. I did eventually pick up a few N frames in the shipping box with everything.

I think your post shows that some guns were shipped with smooth targets.

Some were also shipped in the presentation case without the blue cardboard box. The two examples I have were with the earlier plastic, flocked inserts.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Never having purchased a brand new S&W, I very much enjoyed viewing your photos. Great job with the presentation, Bob.

My father had a 57 in the same barrel length. He let me shot it when I was 12 which would put it around 1972. It was expensive to shoot then. He was a bail bondsman and carried it in a shoulder rig for effect into Phila for bail skips. He went into some neighborhoods where he was the only white guy.
I guess the effect worked he never had any problems.
He had the wooden presentation box as well.
While I served in the Marine Corps he downsized and sold it.
It was deadly accurate that's one thing I remember.
Your display sure brought back a very pleasant child hood memory.
Thanks Bob

That is excellent!!!

I have a 1980 57 4" Class A engraved nickel that came in the factory shipping case. Have never opened the PC however as it is still shrink wrapped. I have a blue 1980 Class A that came with the still shrink wrapped PC but someone had thrown out the shipping container.

Very nice revolver, pics and history sir. Bought my no dash 57 brand new in 76. Came with the presentation case but no outer cardboard box. Still have the case, papers and tools and it still shoots like a dream, though both have suffered war wounds over the years.

Very nice revolver, pics and history sir. Bought my no dash 57 brand new in 76. Came with the presentation case but no outer cardboard box. Still have the case, papers and tools and it still shoots like a dream. It was my bear/deer gun when I lived on Kodiak and Sitka Alaska loaded with hot hard cast LSWC's. Had to send it back to S&W once to have the innards taken care of. Though both have suffered war wounds over the years I can still take a deer with it at 50 yards as its still deadly accuarte as Adam stated.
