So I found this the other day. No box manual etc just the gun but the price was right. It came with a set of Pachs and I am not a fan.

I was looking at the Standard Catalog and it mentions Hogue and Uncle Mikes. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what came on the gun originally?

While I am certainly not an expert, my guess is that it probably shipped with Uncle Mikes combat grips like the ones in the photo. They are sometimes available on EBay, and from other online vendors. The same grips were also sold under the Butler Creek brand.

That's my guess too. A quick web search came up with this old completed auction:

GunAuction - 66-4 3"

The OP's Pachmayr Compac grips are a good choice for shooting. That's what I currently have on my 66-3 2-1/2".

My 3" 66-3s came with magna's; my used -3 was the same.

Mine all now wear Spegel Boot Grips.

Those Pach's Compacts are great for shooting magnum loads..... they are my go to "field" grips on my round butt 4" 686.

There is also a Professional Compact grip same but with an open backstrap;
I generally use a +P .38 load for urban/suburban carry.

By the way the Uncle Mike's pictured above are a licensed copy of Spegel's "Extended Boot Grip".

FWIW' the S&W "Combat" grips don't fit everyone's hands.... I don't like them as they force my little finger away from my ring finger... weakening my grip. I wear a medium glove.

The ones I have seen have the Uncle Mike's rubber grips as in post #2, but I imagine they might have shipped with whatever was in the parts bin on the day of assembly, like Magnas. The 3" L frame CS-1s were 'supposed' to have the Pachmayr Compacs like the gun in post #1 but they are out there with original wood service stocks too.

Both of my three inch 66's came with magnas. My three 2 1/2 inch P&R 66's, also came with magnas. When I had two 4" CS-1's, they had Pachmyers. My LH 686 ND 2 1/2 inch has combats.

Mine also came with Uncle Mike Combats from the factory. Currently it wears a pair of VZ diamond checkered RB combats.

OK so besides Ebay where is a good source? Anyone have pair they don't want?

To OP,
Since this 3" 66-4 is a shooter without original box and papers why do you need to have the type of grip that was on it when it shipped from the factory?
I know that it's nice to have it as original as possible in some photo sessions.I like my guns as original as possible except for range sessions.
Maybe just find grips that are comfortable for your hand while shooting it at the range or carrying.?

OP there was 3 runs of the 3 inch 66-4 non PC revolvers from what I have seen/owned over the years and definitely remember 1 run having uncle Mike's and another run having factory wood magna grips fyi.

I like Spegel grips and the Uncle Mikes were designed by him based off his boot grip. So my desire to have them is two fold. One they make nice shooting grips and they are most likely original to the gun. Win Win

In the end I am putting a set of Badgers on if for now. I hopefully will be able to source a set of legit Spegels at some point which will replace the Badgers.

The Pachs which came on the gun are torn a bit in the back so they are going into the bin as soon as the Badgers arrive.

I agree the Uncle Mike's were/are probably correct for that gun, but in my opinion the Pachmayrs that are on it are maybe the best for shooting magnum loads without bulking up the gun with bigger stocks. Nice looking Model 66. Lucky you to find that one! Congrats!

Spegels are just superior grips. Too bad the list is so long. The scalpers are running up the prices.

An alternative, to me, is Culina grips. They make some fine ones.

Ahrends were the best bang for the buck, imo, but no longer in production.

Just rambling.

This 66-4 (CAA prefix) originally came with checkered Magna grips. The original owner put some Spegels on it.

Amazing what the scalpers are asking for...and getting.
