Well made the jump from 1911 to M&P 2.0 9mm 5".Any advice or hints on going to range or before going to range. The only thing I have found I don't care on this pistol for are the grips,I am 74 and skin is a little thin and soft, these grips feel like rough sand paper. Is there anything I can do or are there replacements.Well i'll Get back to you guys after my first range trip, thanks,I did think of one other thing I found I wasn't happy about, the box it came in is just that, a cardboard box,all the ones i've seen on you tube have been molded plastic,oh,well, later

I'd rather have the plastic box too. Smith has them for sale on their site I believe.

As far as the grip texture, it is definitely rough. I shot 200 rounds of Gold Dot through the .40 in 45 minutes this weekend and my hand was RED!

Hogue makes rubber slip on sleeves called Handalls. I've read that sanding them down a bit is an option too.

Almost all come in Cardboard now except the Pro or Performance Center ones. Try some rubberized Talon Grips if the grip surface is too rough.

I forgot about the Talon Grips. They might be a better option. The Hogue sleeves can be difficult to put on, even on a gun with less texture.

I sanded mine down a little, no biggie. But I do prefer the smoother stippling on my older M&P.

My only advice would be have somebody hide your wallet so you can't find it, and get out now while you still can. Otherwise you will be wanting another M&P real soon... and then another... and another...

Another vote for Talon grips! And congrats on your M&P, you will enjoy it.

I just made the same jump, from compact .45 1911 to the regular size 9mm. I carry one spare
. 35 rounds is better than 15. Go to Greg Cote and stock up on magazines. Any lube will do. I use Breakfree CLP generously. I shoot mostly my reloads but Winchester Q4318 NATO is good stuff.
