Just thought I'd share. There's an antiques dealer up here in Canada who has a S&W in .44 Russian. It's too dear for me, but what a beauty little pistol. It's a nickeled 1st. mod DA with the MOP grips and it seems to be in fine condition. You guys will know if it's been chopped but from the script on the barrel, it doesn't look that way to me. Is $3445. (usd) over priced for that? I bet you'd be shocked at what a good condition shootable antique pistol sells for up here. The last round of anti-firearms legislation made it illegal to buy, sell, or transfer and handgun. Fortunately, antiques are still exempt.

A 4” DA 44 is on my list of guns to own, but at $3500 I’d pass. In my area I would expect someone to ask $1500-$2000usd if it functions correctly. The finish looks great on it

Condition

I agree with Shown50,

Sometimes you have to stand your ground and say “That’s way too much for that item”. Otherwise you are feeding into the overpriced market. Sellers see an item sell for a ridiculous amount of money then they figure theirs is worth that amount too.

The worst in my opinion is parts. Especially when the parts are NOT RARE or hard to find. They are simply overpriced! It’s best to pass and continue looking.

Thank you all for your input. Even for up here that's a little steep but I had no idea what such an item would go for in the lower 48. However if what I've seen at some US auctions, I'd question shown50's estimate as to value.

1st DA

50's estimate it actually not too far off.
Your gun is nice but only very high condition DA's command
a price like $3500

I think the 1st Model .44 D.A. is one of the most handsome revolvers built. One was passed down through my family from my g.g. grandfather however an aunt got possession of all of grandpa's firearms and gave them to non family members of her husband. I've got one that went through a restoration by the factory, it is most prized handgun and even as nice as it is I still shoot it on occasion with black powder only loads.
