There is a farm auction site advertising a 1st Model Double Action in 44 Russian.
There are pics but too dark to make out exactly what I'm looking at. Looks more like a Webley;-)
Can someone try to explain what I should look for, Please.

The picture in your second post looks like a 1st Model Double Action in 44 Russian to me. It looks like it has the shorter cylinder for the 44 Russian.

Long Colt Frazier,

Mark's comment above is right on the money...Most definitely a 1st Model #3 DA .44 Russian for certain!!

Doesn't look like any Webley I've ever seen...Ha!!-Ha!! Good luck if you decide to take a shot at it given it looks to have a bit of condition to it as well!

Well if you squint it looks like a Webley;-)
I know nothing about these but its on an online farm auction with not much info. Bidding on it would be a shot in the dark.

Long Colt,

Might just be worth taking that shot if the Online Farm Auction isn't advertised well...If that's the case it's very possible you might be able to grab it more reasonably than you may think!!

Besides what have you got to lose to throw a Bid in & if it sells for more than you're willing to go you've lost nothing other than a few minutes of your time...Think about it!!

Main reason I make mention...As I stated earlier...From what I can see in that one poor excuse for a photo...It may have a bit of condition to it which isn't often seen on a Blue Finish Dbl.-Action 1st Model .44 Russian...Just my two cents worth!!

I snagged another picture. I am guessing refinished but the pics are no good;-)
Long Colt,

Much better photo...Given that I'm with (iby)...I see no outright indication of a Refinish...Finish looks Original to me & I base that opinion having owned quite a few of those over the past 50+ yrs!!

One thing he said is a bit puzzling though...Not sure where he's getting the notion about the Barrel looking odd or even possibly cut though...If he's making note of that as far as what he sees in the 1st Photo...Really hard to make "Any" decisive opinion based on that poor photo as far as I'm concerned!! By the way...No offense intended (iby)!!

Also...Now that you've been able to snag a much better photo of the Revolver from the Auction Site...Are there any other decent photos posted that may help us in assessing it's condition...Just curious??

I will try to edit another photo, they are all very dark. I was concerned that the trigger looks blued but not sure if it shouldn't be. I appreciate all your expertise as I have none ;-)

Long Colt,

As far as editing some other photos...That would really be helpful!! You also don't have to get too carried away editing them as my photo editing program works very well & I can clean them up myself to save you the trouble!!

Also...Concerning the Trigger possibly being Blue...Highly unlikely given the Hammer isn't & is likely looking that way being it's probably just darkened with age as some are known to do giving that affect!!

Also...If you're going after more photos...If there's one there with a decent photo of the Barrel's Muzzle...Posting one would surely help in making a decision as to (iby's) making note the Barrel may possibly have been cut!! Good Luck!!

Here is another pic try. That is all that was on the auction site.

Long Colt,

Well I see you're a lot faster Photo Poster than I am a Typist given when I hit the Send Reply Button to my response your photos were already there...Ha!!-Ha!!

Now as to the New Photos...I can most definitively note the Trigger hasn't been Blued for a start!! Now as to whether or not the Barrel's been cut...Even though there wasn't a clear photo of the Muzzle itself to post...I see nothing in the photo you posted that would would lead me to believe it's been cut!! Especially so given everything else I see looks to be an Original Blued 1st Model Dbl.-Action .44 Russian!!

Masterpiece that is wonderful to hear. Now I just need to decide how far to chase it;-)

Long Colt,

Thanks for the kind words...More than happy to help out!! As to how far to chase it...That's something you're going to have to decide for yourself given I've been out of the game a bit too long to make an educated enough guess as to it's current value given today's crazy market...Sorry!!

Although if you are lucky enough to be the High Bidder & acquire it...I believe you'll enjoy it immensely...I know I always did mine...Good Luck!!

I'll guess a four-inch barrel also. Send over more photos when it is in hand.
I beg to differ on barrel length. I'd bet the farm it's a 5" barrel. I had a couple of those pass through my hands. Without seeing the bore and actually testing function, "you pays yer money and you takes yer chances". If you look at sites like Gunbroker you can get an idea of market value. Up here (Canada) depending on the factors I mentioned, I'd be asking and getting between $3800-$4500.
