1st Model Double Action 44 Russian

I beg to differ on barrel length. I'd bet the farm it's a 5" barrel. I had a couple of those pass through my hands. Without seeing the bore and actually testing function, "you pays yer money and you takes yer chances". If you look at sites like Gunbroker you can get an idea of market value. Up here (Canada) depending on the factors I mentioned, I'd be asking and getting between $3800-$4500.

Wow no idea these were that price. I guess my $500 bid may not be enough;-)

US prices are probably 1/2 Canadian
Absolutely correct! I started a thread about my problem child pistol I won from RIA. By the time the currency conversion and fees and duty were paid, it was almost double my winning bid. Now I had to buy a replicated ejector cam to put it to rights so add that to the overall cost. Canadian law permits me to open carry an antique pistol when I'm in the woods or bush. I did a private purchase from a good guy on this site who had a nice 1st. mod. DA in .44 Russian. Even with the currency difference, postage, and duty, the same pistol up here would have cost me about at least $1000. more.

That's crazy. What are you doing for ammo?
Starline makes good quality brass that takes the standard lrg.pistol primers. I have a guy who provides me with soft cast 200 gr. projectiles and powder is readily available from my LGS. The dies took some searching for but I found a set of Lee dies. I prefer RCBS but try finding 'em up here! Here's a pic of my bush carry piece. You'll note that I made a replacement foresight that puts my rounds on point of aim.

The auction didn't work out for me. I called the auction house to get some additional info such as does it function;-) They didn't seem to know anything about the gun. I had bid $600.00 and it went for $850.00 after shipping and auction fees. I did enjoy the chase and you guys taught me things about a 1st model Double action! Thanks for your help.

Long Colt,

Sorry things didn't work out for you...Better luck next time!! Although given what the "All In" Price totaled out to be....From what I could see as to it's condition...Didn't bring near as much as what I expected it to!! Just my two cents worth if that means anything!!

I would have been all over it but I just didn't get a good vibe when I asked about function and I don't want a project;-)

Long Colt,

C'mon now where's your sense of adventure...That's all part of the game!! Of course with all of those I'd owned over the years a little tinkering here & there was more fun than buying one just to look at...Ha!!-Ha!!
