I paid a visit to Cabelas in Dundee Michigan (south of detroit/north of Toledo). In the gun library;

38/44 post 1950 with short throw hammer 4" stag grips. Tagged as S W 1905 38 special. 799.99 final markdown. I'm pretty sure it was a reblue, but very nicely done.

34/88 pre-war 4" diamond magnas. Looked to be 90+ % original blue. $1000.00

.455 2nd model british proofed. 6.5 " nice origainl blue 85%+ $859

44/40 colt new service 4.5" and a 44/40 new service 5.5" Both bare metal, no blue 699.99 each.

just out side the gun library in regular stock showcase was a 28-2 6" 329.99.

Also a 1917 classic 45acp 5.5 " 799.99

The grips on the 2 heavy duties are probably worth a fair amount. Although I'm not a grip expert, so have it it.

So, FYI

Nice finds once again at Cabela's but dang they sure are pricey. That seems to be the norm lately. Gun shows, more of the same. Having said that, I sure wish there was a Cabela's here in the Memphis area. I do seem to love the vintage stuff.

Oh, just a follow up on the post 1950 heavy duty.

It was NOT model marked m-20. Otherwise I would have put it on layaway.

There were a ton of other guns in the library, but I'm partial to n frame hand ejectors.

LOTS of colts, an original S &W scofield with no blue for.....$3699 Ouch!

The $1000 Heavy Duty is a 4" Post War Transition, 85%, non matching grips, and serial number in the S64000 range.

Dave, i seen those as well listed at cabelas. a bit over the top for me. have not been to Felix just lately. he keeps getting broke into and ripped off. someone is going to get shot there yet. think he has had it. it would help if he had a better building. its a cool old place that makes you feel like you stepped back in time, but its old and needs to be modernized with better security. he is doing some of that as i understand . being 'new' to 'older' Smiths..isn't that a 'tad' too high?

Ken,
I think so, but would not be for a pre war 4".
