We have a "greasy spoon" Chinese place near here, 2.99 a lb buffet bar for take out, I usually get 5.40 dollars worth, about once every 2 weeks, I fig it has to be good for you ( will be 61 in a couple days) cuzz the Chinese live forever. About a year ago we got a "rescue" kitty kat, which me & the wife love. lately I been noticing that the Chinese "chicken on a stick" looks a LOT like my kittys legs when she walks across the room. I don't go there as often, regards Ernie

Main problem with that assumption is that I doubt the Chinese food in China is anything like the Chinese food served in a typical U. S. Chinese buffet restaurant. $2.99/lb is pretty cheap if it includes meat. About the cheapest good Chinese buffet anywhere near where I live is about $10/person, not including tax and tip, and with the senior discount. I try not to go there very often as I eat too much, especially from the Mongolian barbecue bar. My wife eats nothing there but shrimp, but she still gets her money's worth.

I've worked in the food service industry for over 30 years as a restaurant equipment tech. I've been in the back door of more than my fair share of Chinese restaurants.
I wouldn't eat in one of them even with a gun to my head!!

Chinese food is just food cooked a bit different. You are right cat does not taste like chicken, and dog does not taste like chicken or beef; more like mutton.

Every time I came home with take out Chinese, our cat would take off and not come back home for a week.

Years ago I used to go to a place that was $6.95 all you can eat.
They had the big styrofoam take out containers. They also gave you a container for soup. I would skip the rice since I could make that at home. I loaded up on the meats, shrimp, vegies. I piled it high so the top of the lid was filled up when I smashed the top down. I even filled the soup container with meat. I used to get 3 good meals out of it.

Later they changed the takeout containers to a smaller size.
Many choices at these places do look alike, my guess is that a lot of it is frozen and they just buy it from the same suppliers. I have been to many that have people from China working there, little english spoken and once in a while they get raided by immigration.

As for the food being different from what they have in China, I'm glad, I have seen the food shows filmed in China, I like the Americanized versions better.

My parents walked by the open back door of a Chinese restaurant. I believe they backed down and went somewhere else.

It is cheaper to use chicken. Cats do not have a lot of meat, especially strays. Then you have to butcher and process it. That takes time.

Now there are some Vietnamese restaraunts that serve dog as a secret off menu item, but it is a special request and quite expensive.

they arrested a man 3 times for picking up road kill in south florida he worked at Chinese place . he would ride his bicycle to work and throw it in the basket on the bike. people were complaining once the proper authorities were notified they caught him at the place of work with the road kill they shut that place down

I've had real Chinese food. This stuff here ain't it

It sure isn't! I've lived in and still visit China frequently and many other Asian countries - heading back to Vietnam for a two-month visit October 13. Chinese food is similar, but modified to suit the Taste of Americans.

Though it's likely occurred, I have never seen nor heard discussed the eating of cats, except in Vietnam; dogs, however, are a delicacy for some and eaten at special restaurants that serve folks that like it. This past May While visiting the scenic city of Guilin in the Quangxi province, they were holding their annual celebration where dog is the primary menu item - Most modern Chinese don't appreciate this particular celebration, but it's part of the local tradition.

It's actually very good, had it a few times while stationed in the Philippines in the 80s. It's generally served as an appetizer with San Miguel beer. Today the eating of dogs and cats is frowned upon in most countries. Definitely smells and tastes better than sardines, anchovies, oysters and whale!
