2 basic but special SWs

I shared this elsewhere but thought some here may appreciate it.

Back around 1988 I was on our tactical unit when we got a call out of an officer pinned down by gunfire. When we arrived we extricated the uninjured officer then made entry in the house. The metal patient who was plinking at our officer with a Raven 25 set the house on fire on the second floor. As my partner and I started up the stairs the heat got bad so we decided to fall back. Unknown to us, the mental patient had jumped out of the 2nd floor window and was taken into custody by our cover fire team. No one was injured.
The officer had a long and storied career. He passed away in 2024. Yesterday I bought his service revolver and backup from his retired officer daughter. Proud to have them. Everytime I think of Bob I think of me trying to get the pin back in the flash bang as we were escaping the burning house.

Both went to the local police supply in OKC, JB Battles uniform. The 36 in 1973 and the 65-1 in 1976.

I have passed my model 36 and the 19 I carried to my son who is retired from the same agency.

That's a beautiful combo for a working pair. I carried the 13-1 yesterday IWB, think I'll go OWB today and back it up with the 36 I recently acquired in tribute to your pair. They work well together, much better than a speed loader for back up.

I have a fondness for Police & Border Patrol revolvers, not often you see a k-frame used in service. Thank you for your service and for sharing.

Out of curiosity what type of holster did you and your partner carry that 65-1? My favorite is the Tom Threepersons.

Nice pair of revolvers but I'm sure there is more value to you in feeling the connection to your late partner than pure monetary value.
Many of us have guns owned by passed on family members, mentors, or friends. Each time I show off one of those guns I tell the story of my connection to the former owner.
May you fondly recall those memories as you handle your partner's revolvers.

I had a local shop owner last week wonder why I preferred old, used guns to the new ones. He told me, "A new one costs about the same these days." All I could do was stare in amazement.

Old guns always have a story, IMO. Some are known, most are not. Some are interesting, some are not. Personally, I will always prefer the feel of holding an older, scratched, scuffed, riddled-with-character Smith or Colt over one fresh off the production line. I'm weird that way. LOL!

No markings. I have bought 3 former OCPD revolvers. None have shipped to the department. All have gone to LE supply houses.

Yesterday I was visiting with a buddy who is retired Norman PD. They had some marked by SW and Royce Weddle hand stamped some. He has a 2.5” 66 NPD marked.
