2" Model 34 Shoots 7" High @ 50 Ft.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I shot my 2" nickle Model 34 at an indoor range using Winchester Target ammo.
I could do no better than 7" high at 50 feet with rear sight all the way down.

Can I expect the gun to shoot near point of aim with High Velocity ammo or Super High Velocity ammo like Federal Spitfires or CCI Stingers?

Thanks - J.Solo

You can replace the rear sight blade with a lower one. Call S&W Customer Service at 800-331-0852, after you measure the height of the blade in your sight, and ask for a sight blade kit the next size lower.

When you get it there are FAQs on this site that will insruct you how to change it.

Order a couple of sight adjustment springs and plungers, you are very likely to lose the ones in the sight when you take it apart if you have never done it before.

Generally speaking a handgun will shoot lower with higher velocity ammunition. I suspect changing ammo will solve your problem.

Centerfires maybe, but .22 caliber, hardly. The lighter bullet of the Stinger might make some difference. Remember, he did say a Model 34 (Kit Gun).

I have a nickeled Model 34-1 2" kit gun that is the same as yours. I cannot get the rear sight low enough to print on target. When you remove the sight assembly, you will see that it's quite different from normal S&W adjustable target sights. The sight leaf is already fairly low, standing proud of the adjustment cylinder by only a slight amount. This was very frustrating, and I don't see a solution short of somehow building up the front sight. This would make the gun look very odd, indeed.

I have a model 63 that was shooting almost off the target at 12:00 o'clock. The factory milled the frame so I could lower the rear sight enough to zero the gun.

how comfortable do you feel with the sight picture with the nickel gun? I have both a M-63 (red insert) and a premodel 34 (all black sights). I shoot the premodel 34 better just because I get a better sight picture with the all black sights under all light conditions than with the red insert of the M-63. in my opinion the front sight should have came black from the beginning on the M-63. I don't have a problem with getting the sights adjusted to point of aim. this is using winchester powerpoint ammo.
