Hi - great forum.
I have been looking at red dot sights for my M&P sport.
Are any of the 200$ sights any good? This will be used for mostly target shooting. Also, will the front site be in the way?
Im looking at:
Burris Fast Fire II
Aimshot HG pro

thanks

Depends on what your definition of good is, and what your use will be. For range plinking and hunting, where if the dot fails, you either switch to irons and continue shooting or pack it up and call it a day, then there are some good ones out there.

I have a Millet Multi-dot SP on my Sport and have a Bushnell TRS-25 on my son's M&P 15-22. The Bushnell TRS-25 is very popular and is less than $100. Primary Arms is also popular for inexpensive red dots.

A friend of mine has the Buris Fast Fire iii, but he has it on a pistol. He likes it, other than the 8 MOA dot. The Fast Fire II has a 4 MOA dot available, but I think you can do better for the money. I wouldn't spend $200 for a budget red dot, as at that price, you are halfway to an Aimpoint Pro.

As far as the front sight post, yes, you will see it in the sight picture when using a red dot. You can choose different height mounts that will dictate just how much you will see. Do a search on co-witness.

I'm currently using a sightmark ultra shot, and am happy with it. Choice of 4 reticles, just a 3 moa dot, 60 MOA circle with 3 moa dot like the EOTech or a couple others. 5 brightness settings, even on the brightest day outdoor shooting 4 was plenty. They run anywhere from $70-$150 depending on mounting option & night vision setting, etc. Worth looking at.

I'll chime in with my bi-weekly support of Primary Arms. The 30MM is probably my favorite and the MicroDot sells out in minutes... Lot of people have it on their email notification list. Great company to deal with as well.

SPARCO seems to do the job. Many many people seem to think they are as good as the high end stuff and have a Lifetime warranty.

Primary arms and the bushnell are the cream of the crop under $100 dots. Above that, you get to the vortex strikefire and others that will serve you well.

I personally have both a vortex strikefire and a SPARC and would recommend both of them.

I was getting ready to pull the trigger on a PA red dot. The 30MM is in stock, but the MicroDot is not. I think I'm just going to get the 30MM.

I thought long and hard about what optic to put on my 1/8 5R Sport, before I desided on the AimPoint PRO. Every time I go to the range an punch the center out of the target I'm glad laid out $370 for quality glass.

I like the 30MM a lot. However, they just had a mfg cancel an order that they were going to bundle with their ARs. So, PA now has these. Only difference is the base is not removable. Or, at least they don't recommend removing due to the process in which is was mounted. It wouldn't bother me since I would be running that mount anyway. For $89, it's a steal!!!

Hmm I have been wanting a red dot for my sport.....

Picked one up....Thanks for the link!

Thanks for all of the leads. I'm leaning towards the 'reflex/holographic' style sights, only due to their smaller size and looks, I have no experience with either though.

Look into a vortex strikefire or a sparc. They are awesome 2 moa red dot sites under your price range.

Awesome, they must have just added these late yesterday as I just checked their site yesterday morning and these were not there. I just ordered one, thanks for the heads up, that's a great deal with the riser included!

PS: I ordered one of the AR15 Tekmat gun cleaning mats too for $ 14.99 that are on sale, that's a great deal too as they go for $24.99 on Amazon.

Great stuff, thanks again.

My .02..............I have the Vortex Strikefire. Co-witnesses perfectly. Got mine for $165 on amazon.

Second this...before the boating accident, 3 ARs with 3 Strikefire red dots. For the money, can't be beat. Holds zero well, bright sun no problem with the red dot model, and a perfect co-witness.

A lot of likes for the Vortex strikefire. 169 shipped i found. Not bad, i like it.

Another question does it matter where you mount it on the sight rail?

I have the Vortex StrikeFire R/G dot and for the money, can't complain.
Green dot is really handy when shooting at red target centers, especially in bright sunlight. Never a problem seeing either color, however. Got the VMX-3T magnifier, also. Flips to the side.
