2000 round test of SD40 VE

Aimhigher, not buying or buying ANYTHING based on one positive or negative thing is deffinitly not the way you should go about doing things...how many other problems has anyone had with these guns? Not many, this is one of the first ive seen and its a odd ball. So you could be selling yourself short on a great gun becuase you saw one bad incident.

If thats how you do things Im sure your apartment is bare and you walk naked to work

Talking to you from his Samsung Galaxy S4

hey now my apartment is bare and i walk naked to work...... :)

EBK, interesting test. I would like to see you take the magazine with the Apex extension out of the rotation for the remainder of the test. You've already had enough failures with it to blame the mag and not the gun. I see no point in keeping it in the test.

The Apex magazine extension was the main reason for the test. I am evaluating it for APEX along with other members from this forum. The base will be swapped to a different magazine, if I still experience failures then I will say the base plate is the problem. I am not prepared to make that statement just yet.

Well, I was thinking about buying one of these guns, but not anymore.

Every company puts out a lemon from time to time.

If you read the begining of this thread I had roughly 1100 rounds through the gun before the test started. around the 800 mark I started to have the slide lock issue due to a weak slide lock spring ( I originally thought it was my grip). Smith and Wesson sent one out free of charge. If this Minor problem is enough to steer you away then I am not sure there is a company that makes firearms you would be happy with.

Probably 10,000 rounds shot through my model 19-4. No malfunctions whatsoever. My comment was more to do with pistol vs. revolver. A friend wants to sell me his BNIB Sigma .40SDVE, and I was thinking about it. But your tests reminded me that when it comes to my life, I'm not going to risk it on a machine that is subject to malfunctioning -- even once in 1,000 rounds. This is the very reason that LE organizations were slow in adopting autos. It was the reliability factor.

Which ever you choose I hope it serves you well.

Duh. My bad.

What exactly does this accomplish??

Gives a good idea what to expect function wise should you be unable to clean your firearm, forget or if you are just one of those people that cleaning your gun is not a priority.

Still no word from Ameriglo. I have left 2 Voice mails and as of today I sent an e-mail. They have had the front sight Since October 18th.

I was stuck working OT last weekend so no shooting was done, hopefully I will be able to get out this weekend and put another 200 or so down range.

I received a reply to my e-mail asking about the status of my return from Amerigo this morning stating that they are sorry for the delay and that a replacement front sight will be sent out today.

I guess it just got lost in the shuffle.

I went to get more ammo, 100 round boxes are now going for 45$ + tax. Not sure I can kept he test up if prices do not fall soon. 420 bucks for 1000 rounds is insane prices.

I hope Apex is paying you for this test, because you're spending a lot on ammo to extensively test their product. Just sayin'.

As many have alluded to here, the problem is likely in the magazine; and most likely due to the modification. Feeding and locking problems such as you have had often come with a change in magazine capacity accomplished with an add-on extension base. Did the base come with a new spring? If so, it should be longer than the stock spring and able to maintain the same level of tension. A stock spring in an extended magazine can also reduce the tension enough to cause erratic or nonexistent slide lock due to reduce pressure against the slide lock by the follower. This may not be your issue, since you had 4 failures to lock with a stock magazine, but it's still a thought. Guess the question is: did the Apex extension come with a longer spring, and does it appear to be as stiff as the original?

No Apex Tac. is not buying the ammo which is why I may have to stop at 1000 rounds I dont want to give up and I am almost halfway there already.

They did sort of sponsor the test as the parts were supplied for testing along with the Mag extension which I am beta testing for.

The problem was it was locking open with ammo still in the magazine. I had no issues with it locking open on the last shot.

Oh, OK. I misinterpreted that. I still wonder, though; did the Apex extended base come with a different spring?

No it did not, Apex told us to use the factory spring. However I am the only one who had any issues that I am aware of.

It could just be that mag spring and body are bad. I will be putting the base on a different mag for the remander of my test.

My range has recently changed the rules so I need to buy a membership before I can continue testing or even use the range. I am hoping to get back at it this weekend.
