I missed a stop light Saturday, and creamed my 2003 Sable. It looks like it will be totaled. I am thinking about a 2001 Dodge 1500 in very Good shape That I found today. They want $49995.00 forit , bot the only thing is that it has 163,000 miles on it. What do you think?

Thanks for any imput

I hope there is an extra 9 in that ...being 4995.00?
They're good trucks with typical Dodge problems ...which all makers have.
I think for 5 grand with that kind of miles your could probably do a little better as in newer or lower miles ...but if you like it GO for it.

I had a 2001 Ram. They are generation 2 models. In 2002 they released the gen 3 models with new styling and engines. So no attempt was made to rectify long known issues on gen2's as they were being "retired". Look up Dodge Ram valley cover for instance. All of them are gas guzzlers. Avoid it like the plague. If you still decide to buy make sure the spark plugs aren't seized to the holes.

Are you going through a dealer and getting at least a year's full warranty?

Just recently I was looking at a '01 Ram with low miles. I asked a mechanic friend about it and he pretty much said the same thing JcMack said......."Don't do it!"

I had an '01 Ram for 140,000 miles. Best truck I ever had, it would pass everything on the road, except a gas station! I sold it 3 years ago for $5k. I reckon you could do better.

My Dodge Ram is a 1996 (bought new) has 193,000 miles and lived up to its name...Dodge Ram. Rebuilt transmission and new engine at 130,000 then replaced bumper, grill, radiator and left front fender a couple months afterwards due to the head on ram.

All else has been well...been a good Red Neck truck and hope to keep driving it.

:) I have a 2001 Dodge Ram and it's been a good truck. It's
only got 80,000 miles on it. It loves gas like I love S&W's.

My '99 Dodge went 115K trouble free miles for me, and my son has added another 25K to it with no troubles. My '08 is still young at 20K and following the same trouble free path. One of my gun show buds has had the same trouble free results with his 2000 Dodge at 150K miles. My other gun show buddy has had two ford pickups over the same time frame, has had a multitude of problems and even put us on foot a 100 mile from home once, and he still swears Fords are the greatest thing since sliced bread and anything not a Ford is junk. Keep in mind that no matter what brand of vehicle you ask about, there will be a reasonably equal number of people who will tell you that particular brand is junk....be it Ford, Dodge, Chevy, Jeep, whatever. My own 50 years of driving experiences with various brands of vehicles has shown that just about any brand name, given proper setup from the dealer, will give service equal to the quality of care you give it. I might make an exception for the Jeep and put it on the junk short list, since I have noticed a much higher percentage of the local Jeep owners who complain about them. Plus, a dealer friend who once sold both Jeep and Dodge off the same lot, warned me to stay away from the Jeep and stick with Dodge or I would run a much higher risk of being unhappy.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I called the dealer and told him tha just too many miles. By the way here in Oregon used car dealers can not give warrenties.
