2023 Round-Up - How did you fare?

A terrific haul jared. Can't complain. Still have too many projects. Bought some AR upper parts for builds, .22 and .45 pistols and a x39. Did find a nice Colt Officers Model .38 with a 7.5 inch barrel, didn't know they even existed, and a Woodsman parts gun to play with. This is my new side charger x39 upper.

I always thought ARs were of little value. Just a way to dispose of a lot of expensive ammo fast. Lately there has been so much political hype about how bad they are and that they should be banned. THAT is what made me learn that I really NEED one.

So, an AR was my only gun purchase in 2023. Only shot it once. Now I have another problem.....looking for parts because now I need ANOTHER ONE.

I went a little crazy this year. It started w/ just a few early in the year, then a coworker prodded me by saying "Damn, you might get one for each month this year." Challenge accepted! In the order I acquired them:

1. Springfield SA-35 (Hi Power Clone) 9mm

2. Ruger Super Blackhawk 5.5", .44Mag (pic)

3. Beretta 92X Centurion 9mm

4. Pietta (Great Western Arms) SAA Clone 4", .357Mag (pic)

5. Mossberg 940 JM Pro 12ga

6. Smith-Corona 1903A3 .30-06 (pic)

7. Sig P229 Legion 9mm

8. Ruger Ranch Rifle 7.62x39

9. Ruger LCP Max .380ACP

10. S&W 686-6 6", .357Mag. I plugged the dumb lock hole already.

11. S&W 65-5 3", .357Mag (pic)

12. S&W 29-2 6.5", .44Mag (pic)

13. (Maybe this year?) S&W 27-2 6", .357Mag. Purchased recently off fellow forum member, yet to pick up. I'll make a separate thread once I've got some pics.

Should probably cool it next year, especially considering I've yet to shoot a number of these. Hard to get to the range, but always fun to acquire! Of the ones I've shot, I think we had the most fun with Blackhawk and the 1903A3. Just a fantastic rifle. We'll see what next year brings, I've officially caught the S&W bug!

I had a really good year. I managed to attend three good gun shows this year, spring and fall at Tulsa and Colorado collectors show at Greeley, Colorado. I collect Winchester .22s and got one at each of these shows. A Winchester model 1902 at Tulsa in the spring, A Winchester model 1906 Expert in Greeley and a Winchester model 1904 in Tulsa this fall. All three are in very nice shape for their age. I feelvery fortunate that at my age I can still drive and walk these shows. 2023 was another good year.

Picked up three S&W's this year, two from private sellers at Phoenix Crossroads gun shows and a 627-5 rescue at a New Mexico gun auction during the summer. I blew my fun money on two custom M14 tribute rifle builds (Army XM25 and a Navy SSR), a shooter M1A build, and four INTL.MIL.CO. M16 lowers for future tribute builds.

586-3 .357 Distinguished Combat Magnum 6" square butt, shipped Feb 1992.
627-5 .357 Mag-8 times Performance Center 170210, shipped Dec 2005.
629 no dash .44 Magnum Stainless 103606, shipped Oct 1981.

Gave an Sig 238 to my stepson, and bought a Grand Power Q100 and a Taurus TS9 because I love guns with funky actions. Those are the only three transactions I can remember.

I didn't dispose of anything, and my intended acquisitions have slowed down. But I couldn't resist perusing a gun auction site and there it was, a S&W Model 41 with the long barrel and a muzzle brake that had been set up for an optical sight. I already had the same model of Model 41 but it wasn't set up for an optical sight, which I need for precision shooting now. So I threw in a absolute lowball bid with a little bit of range in case of subsequent bids. I think there was only 1 other bid and it was under my ceiling price, so I GOT THE GUN at an absolute bargain.

At first i was having a lot of failures to eject that would tie up the gun and require dropping the magazine to knock out the empty case. But in perusing the internet I came across a suggestion to scrub the barrel and chamber with a slightly oversized bronze brush. I wet the barrel and chamber with a couple different solvents and scrubbed them out with .25 bronze brush and now the gun shoots almost perfectly. Just a bargain that I fell into.

My journey began last February when acquisition of a used Vudoo .22 rifle led to a serious fascination with informal benchrest shooting, I placed an order with Desert Precision for one of Kenny's masterpieces. That rifle finally arrived in October and it was worth the wait.

The other over-the-top acquisition was one of the new Alien Creators. I had already owned the first Alien since they first came out and although obscenely expensive, it is an astounding handgun.

The result of a trade with one of the fine members here resulted in the acquisition of a VERY nice HK 93, which in turn led to a PTR 91 because I had already spent too much this year to go for a real HK 91.

The last indescretion was an FAL based on an Austrian Stg58 kit in an older Coonan forged receiver.

I need to go into a 12 step program for firearm acquistion, obviously.

Isn't the 12 step program where you have to buy one a month per year?:D

Last couple years have been slow for me. Can't get over the sticker shock, still stuck in the 90's to 00's.

Got a new Python, older Colt SAa in 38-40, and a Colt Officer Model Match .22.

Have been mostly a S&W guy, but I've found better values on Colts recently.

This post got me curious as to how many I added this year. Some were trades and others were impulse buys.

Hand guns
S&W 1917 factory refurbished 11/54
S&W 22 Outdoorsman
S&W post war K22
Colt Official Police 38
Stevens single shot

Rifles
Charter Arms AR-7
LH Savage Axis II 7mm-08
LH AR15 6.5 Grendel

Shotguns
Winchester 37 Red Dot Youth 20 gauge.
Winchester 1300 XTR 12 gauge
Winchester 101 Trap
Winchester 101 Pigeon Grade Skeet (I added Briley tubes)
Nikko NTG trap

Since 13 is an unlucky number I may have to buy another in the next few days. Net gain of 5 I think.

Holy cow, CH4...did you win the Lottery or what? That's about 15+ years of collecting for me! Congratulations, that's an impressive inventory.
