2023 Round-Up - How did you fare?

Bought a bit of ammo. Guns: Sold a "problem child" Zastava .223 B/A rifle, got a problem child Remington .223 model 700 ADL with a Nikon scope for an additional $150. I may have put together an AR or 2, I buy a part or 2 at a time and assemble a rifle when they all come together. Sometimes takes more than a year so the expense flows unnoticed in the "grocery account." At 70 acquisitions seem less urgent. Joe

I'd say 2023 was a great year for me…I figured I'd post in this thread on the last day of 2023.

Total firearm purchases for 2023 totaled 37 with a mix of shotguns, revolvers, semiautomatics & rifles. 16 Smiths were purchased.

Total number sold this year was 30 which included 6 smiths which consisted of AR, semiautomatics & a few revolvers.

The revolvers which joined the safe are as follows with month purchased:

19-2 4" nickle June
48-4 8 3/8" June
48-3 6" June
15-3 2" nickle NIB July
48-4 4" August
58 6" with cokes August
27-2 5" October
Pre 27 6 1/2" with cokes November
(2) 10-5 3" Sq. November
27 ND 8 3/8" December
36-1 3" Sq. December

I guess I need to start earlier than June this coming year to find the few that need to join the others in the safe.

Wishing everyone a safe & Happy New Year!!

That's all the excitement I need.......... :D

Ooh ok I guess I can tell on myself: acquired, a bolt action Marlin model xxx in .22 Mag from the LGS. From auction a S&W 659 because someday I'll be in the wet Northwet and I'll need a CRS pistol. A Turkish semiauto 12g shoddy gun because a friend didn't want it. I need some rubber grips for the 659.

He who dies with the most toys . . . still dies.

I've been making the effort to start turning the dial 180 degrees. My entire collection through my competition and hunting years was distilled to that intangible thing that filled each theoretical need for me, and as I felt I no longer had a practical reason to keep them I divested. Now, facing the inevitable that we all come to, I find myself playing the odds that I'll live long enough to be able to still enjoy some of what I have for a while, continuing to try to pry some from my grasp by classifying them as redundant or overkill. Letting more go than the now rare occasional acquisition. I can honestly say that at one time or another in the last near 50 years, I have had one or more of anything that ever truly interested me, even in passing with few exceptions. Like everyone else, a few I wish I had kept from a financial point of view, but nothing that I feel I lack today of any real significance. The ideal would naturally be to "run out of gas as I pull into the station", having disposed of everything except bequests and legacy pieces that are to go to worthy recipients at my passing. Well, one can always hope . . .
