2024 Corvette E-Ray

That Ferrari comparison is fun. I think the Ferrari is marginally prettier.

I looked it up.

Base price is (was?) $1.4M compared to the Vette's $105K. Ferrari spec said 0-60 in under three seconds. Vette above is 2.5.

I like the Ferrari ... maybe a bit better looking. But I don't like its looks $1.3M better! (And maintenance costs.... I knew a guy who knew a guy who owned one back in the 1990s. He said the owner was paying over $10K per year to keep it tuned.)

The comparison makes me realize what an amazing accomplishment that new mid-engine Vette is.

Not sure if it was a hybrid like this, but they had what they called an e-Vette pace the Indy 500 this year. Of course it was hard to hear even if it did make a sound with the field a half mile behind, but it seemed absolutely silent…almost no tire noise on the smooth brickyard track at all and no engine noise. I’d estimate the top speed it hit was well over 100mph and still no sound…eerie!
 
Having been in the car/truck business all of my working life, having worked at Ford SVO in the 80’s, been the powertrain guy on the GN34 sports car program, and having been addicted to hot cars since the 60’s, having sold my 2008 C6 Z06 because…………there was virtually NO PLACE to drive it without serious legal consequences, I have to ask, Where can you drive this beast? I’m afraid it would become a “hangar queen”. I’ll stick with S&W revolvers.
 
I think some of the mid-60s big block Corvettes are interesting, but getting in or out is a bear, and I am sure that carrying two Rottweilers in one would be far too difficult. I think I will enjoy the semi we bought as the foundation for our RV far more.
 
It is a European supercar killer for sure, but I still prefer the C6 body the best. They got everything they could from the front engine design. It was time for a change to compete and take the lead.
 
Update!

Was notified of an allocation for an E-Ray about a month ago. An allocation means the dealer has an opportunity for a confirmed order and it was mine if I chose.

After due consideration I declined to place an order. I “speced” my potential order online. It would be north of $150K. Simply could not justify it at this moment. Moreover, it would look almost exactly like the 2022 Corvette I currently own. What’s the point of having a new ride if nobody knows? 😂😂 I am kidding, of course.

There very likely will be another Corvette in my future but no E-Ray just yet.

Gearhead since the late 50s and up till a couple years ago and always had some sort of a fun car. Over the years I knew of a couple places that I could let my Vettes get good exercise.:D

With multiple carbs, probably an EPA air pump and the first cat converters, I can believe it, but these days, fuel injection and the computers keep all that in order.
 
I retired last year after working at a Chevy dealer for 10 years, saw numerous C8 Vette's over the years but never got to drive one. My son wants to buy one so my daughter in law rented him one for a weekend as a birthday present. He and I took it out and cruised around for about 4 hours on that Saturday afternoon. I was very impressed with it. I found it relatively easy to get in and out of, I'm 67, it handled like a go cart and performance was great. My son was a little intimidated by the performance but I found it very predictable and easy to drive, overall I think it's a great value for the money. I hope he actually buy's one so I can borrow it from him!
 
My cars are to get me from one place to another in reasonable safety and comfort; nothing more or less. I don't give a hoot about 60 MPH in 3 seconds or speeds of around 200 MPH. I have never paid more than $35,000 for a vehicle. (my latest) With the new Corvettes. that would be a resonable down payment. I can't imagine what full coverage insurance would be on one of them. I haven't had a speeding ticket in 40 years, so I obviously don't have a need for speed.

Yes, that body style was easily the high point of Corvette design and certainly had the looks, but nothing close to that pinnacle after '67.
