Just got a e-mail from CDNN. They have Scorpion .22 LR ammo on sale for $59.99 a brick. Not a great deal BUT they do have some, I bought 4 bricks.

I'm not familiar with that brand. Have you or anyone else used it?

I would NOT pay $60 bucks for a no name brick of .22 RF!! I'd sooner shoot .38 reloads for the same or less. So far the MOST I have paid for .22's is $25 / Brick (for the 500 round bricks). I routinely pass on most of the ammo because of the ridiculous pricing. When I see reasonable ammo, I grab a bunch. I bought 2 cases (10,000 rounds) of Federal 40 grain Champion Hi Vel. (blue box) and paid 22.95 / Brick which was about 2 years ago and I have about half left so I am NOT in a panic mode. When I see a good deal I'll jump on it. Just 2 weeks ago I scored 7 Bricks of Remington Thunderbolts (yea I know it's junk - but better than nothing) for 21.95 / Brick at Dick's. Today I bought 2 bulk packed bricks of Federal Match .22 Auto (325 count) for 21.95 ea. and per bullet that was about the most expensive ones I have, but I like their accuracy and reliability in my M41.

Last week in a LGS they were selling red and white boxes (Polish ammo I believe) Bricks of 500 for $69.95 each - - - PASS!!! The same gun store had a few Remington Bucket O' Bullets which was $159.00 for 1400 rounds - PASS! The owner looked at me like I was nuts for NOT buying it and even said to me (after buying another beautiful M18 from him at a great price by the way) I can't believe you're not gonna buy ammo for it. I just smiled and said "not at those prices" - thanks anyway.

I agree with chief38, that in no way am I going to pay $60.00 for a brick of 22's.

Good for you. Don't know anything about the brand, but that doesn't mean anything. There are lots of brands of ammo of which I have no knowledge. Try it out in your firearms. I hope you get good results.

As to price, that's the way it is. I don't have to like it. But if I'm going to shoot any of my .22 LR firearms, I'll have to pay whatever is the going price or end up with wall hangers and paper weights.

The cause of these prices? Some want to blame the current regime. I would agree. Some would blame the falling dollar. I very much doubt that in the extreme. The dollar has not fallen 66%. But prices have gone from $15-18 up to $45-50. Some blame the supposed hoarders. Well, there are also those who blame Tea Party patriots for this that and the other thing. So, it is understandable that similar unfounded blame should be attached to a vaguely defined social group stereotyped as outside the norm.

Some will opine that it is the free market at work. Really? I very much doubt that. The market for ammo as with any other product has never been and is not now free. It is manipulated. The anger and outrage at such manipulation is understandable. It would be understandable if the product whose price was being manipulated was insulin... or cancer treatment... or knee replacement... or bacon. Those who want to pretend they are the ant rebuking the grasshopper for failing to buy .22 LR ammo when it was available can go right ahead and rebuke. If it make them feel better about the calculated destruction of the 2nd Amendment and our firearms traditions, then let them go right ahead and rebuke. And, when they get down to a box or two of ammo left, when they can only buy more ammo by paying the very prices that they rage against, then they will pay the price and keep their mouths shut about what they thought of those who didn't have the foresight to buy "cheap and stack deep." Or, they will have a nice assortment of wall hangers and paper weights.

if I get to Wal-Mart or dunhums on the right day I can still buy them for 25.97 a brick. so why do others charge 60.00? GREED..

The situation is changing as we speak - that is, getting better. The lead stuff is at the 'new' prices - about 10-20% higher. While the copper plated stuff; golden bullets and CCI, etc., are about $30ish for 500.

Just hang in there. It'll be back to the (new) normal in a few more months. All the guys at the stores tell me they're getting it in every week.

The .22 is the only ammo still being hoarded around here. I saw a shelf of 9mm Monarch at Academy (brass) for $12.99 yesterday and nobody was buying it.

As somebody else said; I'll reload .38 LSWCs before I'll pay .10/each for .22!

I refuse to pay scalper prices for rimfire ammo. Doing so just drags out the return of the normal market. Met a guy at Walmart the other day that said he has maxed out two credit cards on ammo. He said it had turned into an addiction that he had to hunt ammo daily. Due to his financial distress he sold me and a buddy 16 bulk packs of 525 rounds for $400 in the parking lot. Figure in the tax and he may have broke even.

I have enough that I can wait to buy when I see it at Walmart. Everyone else around here wants $40+ a brick. I don't need to shoot that bad.

I did however buy 2 100 round boxes of Remington Yellow Jacket HPs at WalMart the other day for $9.97 each just to try them.

BJoe, you're an hour from Columbus, where it can be had for half that at Cabela's or Vance Outdoors. I assume you cannot travel or are a new shooter.

Did you call the Dayton Armory or Arms Depot?

I've paid upwards of that for match grade ammo back when I was competing. That said, i would not pay more than 1/2 that for plinking use ammo. As another poster mentioned, if you plan ahead and stock up (i.e. for a year or so's worth of shooting and reloading), you aren't subject to ransom prices.

Good news is that stocks are slowly freeing up and prices coming down to the reasonable range for the bulk stuff.

I was in Walmart the other day checking out ammo, and they were loading the shelves .( about 11 am..) had 22 but it was rem yellow jackets. Me and a few others passed and left it for the next guy. I've always been picky... but I'm seeing others also. Shows things are easing a bit

The ammo hack for Walmart has helped me over the past couple of weeks. I've been finding CCI mini mags popping up at numerous WM stores within 5-15 miles from my house. $7.47/100 box + 6.875% sales tax.
Here's the video on how to use it if you've not already seen it.

Yesterday morning I picked up my new Ruger 10/22 Sporter rifle at the LGS. While the salesman was completing some paperwork, I wandered over to the ammo area and noticed a bunch of CCI mini-mags and similar CCI AR Tactical 22lr ammo on the shelf. It must have just come in to the store, there was no price marked and the salesman didn't even know they had any. I asked him for a price check. He scanned it and said "$11.99" per box of 100. I thought to myself, "ouch."

I wish I could say I was strong and resisted the temptation, but one box of mini-mags went home with me and my new 10/22.

Folks, please don't pay $60 a brick for .22lr from anybody. All this does is enforce the the belief that this is the new norm. I'd rather do without than pay those kinds of prices. Have some patience and don't capitulate.
