Up here in Canada. For the past 6-8 months, maybe more, 22 bulk ammo and standard ammo is very hard to come by. Every store up here is trying to sell us stories of people in the US paying $100+ for a brick (500) of bulk 22 ammo. Some are saying CCI and others are $300 for 500.
Up here, if you shop around and wait, we can pick up bricks for $32-$45.
CCI is about $8 per 100 brick.
Its trickaling in but you got to shop weekly.
Is it really that way down there?
I have heard some store down there selling 50 rounds per customer per day.
Silliness.
Anyway how bad is it?
Reason why I ask is, A brick use to cost $25ish here now its $32. A local store just brought in 28,000 rounds of dynapoint and m-22.
Should I be a jurk and stock pile?
I have about 7,000 save up so far.

Yeah, it really was that bad here in the lower 48. The prices that some are asking is astounding, with few buying. With patience and due diligence .22lr can be purchased from .05-.10 cents per round. Things are getting better though in the last two months with more ammunition being seen on the shelves but many stores limiting purchases to one box be it a brick (500) or a box of 50.

As far as having 7000 rds. on hand to some that is a lot while others who shoot 500 plus a week than 7000 is not much. Myself I would not over pay or buy from those that are price gouging.

Well that is my 2 cents wort or less than a lr round.

we had a shooting in a school. some wackjob killed his mom, took her ar15(5.56/.223) and went on a rampage. then our Pres made a speech vowing to 'do something' about evil black rifles. a bunch of anti-gun legislators instantly started drafting bills against anything that's long/black/and shoots bullets. people feared another "assault" weapons ban.

that same day, after the crime(or was it the speech?) and the few days after, all ammo shelves were emptied(out of fear). everything from pistol ammo, .22lr, to rifle ammo.
almost over-night, stores raised their prices to 1)combat hoarding by resellers and 2)to make profit, and 3)because ammo makers were running their factories 24/7 with many employees raking in serious over-time to keep up with the new high demand. that went on for about 6-8 months.
after a few months, everyone realized no one is taking anything away. well over a year later, and prices have not come down all the way... why? because local gun stores realized that if everyone was willing to pay the new astronomically high prices, why should we drop the prices down to what they were before? lets just keep them somewhere in the middle and make good profit, while appearing "competitive". my local gun store sells 9mm, right now, for $29.98/box (50rnds).

The Ammo story is one of "If a Customer sees some," he buys some. I'm just guessing here but some are buying years in advance just to get some. A while back the only ammo available was in the Chicago area ( pallet loads of the stuff in warehouses) and no hand guns were allowed there then.

Don't believe everything your Canadian brothers tell you. I just picked up 825 rounds (500 blazers, 325 Federal auto match target) for $52 from Cabelas, last week. $13 of that is shipping, so you can do the math.

I've picked up lots of .22lr over the past 18 months by watching the ammo thread here, and on another forum. By utilizing free shipping offers and no tax I've averaged right around .05 per round.

Rimfire is plentiful online.
Unfortunately, people like myself who do not have a credit card are SOL. I can't remember the last time I fired my 15-22. Every time I visited someplace local trying to buy ammo they were out and had no idea when they would get some in. After hearing that repeatedly I gave up looking. :(

It is expensive but not at those levels. Problem is the demand far exceeds the supply especially when you consider the huge numbers of new gunowners that have joined the hobby. I do believe that at some point the manufactures will have to add new production.

Has the price jumped for you guys?
AE two years ago was $200 for 5000 case including 5% govt tax.
Dynapoint 500 round brick was $25
Now CCI and AE are not to be found and dynapoint is $34.
Yellowjacket and rem subsonic are $45ish. Both were $35ish last year.
So is this the case down there????

22 lr has and is available but you have to be selective where and when you buy. Yes some people ask "$120" per brick, but it is not selling. I have only started buying 22lr again over the past 5-6 months @5 cents or less per round. But I was around for clinton in 1994 and decided never again!! So I purchased what my wife and I needed at reasonable prices and a little more... I have not sold any in 3 yrs, but have given some to people who NEEDED it, and to people who purchase a 22 lr firearm. Be Safe,

I'm in much of the same situation here. Local retired guys are making their rounds at the stores, literally every day, and buying up the supply. This is confirmed by multiple vendors. They are then taking it to the local gun shows and selling it for a deep profit. It makes it impossible for guys like me who don't have the time to travel to multiple stores every day (and who quite frankly refuses to). The biggest issue is that they monopolize the local market, leaving people no choice but to either not buy or buy at their ridiculous prices. Until this behavior stops, the supply and demand issue will not be corrected.

Lastly, ordering on-line is not possible in Illinois where you are mandated to provide proof of a FOID card for ammo purchases. By the time you call and send your info in, it's too late. The on-line ammo is gone. Be patient. I'm sure things will eventually turn. Hell, 5.56 has come back down to 29 cents per round. Things are getting better...until our new ISIS battle takes up the ammo demand again.

Those retired guys irk me, but ive been diligent and persistent in my online search and have scored rounds generally no more than 7cpr. Maybe 8cpr for mini mags.

That's truly the name of the game and has been for a while. You have to be patient and diligent. It's frustrating and is enough to turn some people off to the sport. It's just sad though because 22 for the most part is just for plinking and fun. There's no need to stockpile it to kingdom come. I'd rather do that with my defensive rounds.

If ALL of you guys would just back off for a month or so ammo prices would return to normal. The only caliber that's in "Short Supply" is 22 and that's primarily due to hoarders. I haven't bought 1 friggin round of 22 since the idiocy started and don't intend to do so.
We/You are our own worst enemy.

That's not quite true Jim. You can't hoard what isn't there.
Our local Wal-Mart hasn't had any .22 LR or any rimfire for that matter for well over a month. Shotshells & rifle ammo aplenty.
But NO .22's. There used to be long lines of folks looking to buy a year or so ago...not anymore, folks gave up.
I don't know about on-line. I know some guys find ammo there, but the shipping costs are extreme. JMO

If credit is your problem just get a secured card for $50.00 or $100.00. There are plenty of companies out there that will do that. Then you can at least buy some ammo. Pay it off and then get more. Also it will rebuild your credit. If you just don't want to get a credit card and unless things change and ammo comes back you are SOL. I have not attempted to drive around looking for ammo since I found the In Stock ammo thread. All delivered to my door with no wasted time and gas. At this time I have enough and just purchase to replace what I shoot or if a brand comes on the thread that I like to shoot.

I don't know how you figure that out. Yes there are some posts on the In Stock Ammo thread that have high shipping. But see post #5. That works out to a little over 6 cents per round delivered to your door. You just have to wait for the right one to come online. I don't think that I have purchased any ammo I have right now for over 6 1/2 to 8 1/2 cents per round delivered, some lower. Getting in your car driving around to Walmart and the big box stores is a total waste of time and gas. A perfect example was last week and the week before Federal Auto Match was on the link for $23.94 delivered to your door. Thats a little over 7 cents per round. On 9/3 I caught the Federal Champion 2100 round ammo can for $109.99 on the thread with a free shipping special. Thats a little over 5 cents per round. So it's there if you want it.
