Very nice Bruce, especially those stocks. Do you think it shipped with them? About 1953, correct? I've got a number of those sets of non-relieved targets but have never been sure which guns the factory equipped with them or why versus the standard diamond magnas. I would have thought them to more likely have been original to the Masterpiece rather than the 4 inch guns. Don't think I've ever seen anything definitive on that though.

I have the same thing in a 38 Combat. It has a target hammer and non relieved target stocks. All tools too. It is the nicest Smith I own. Drippy mint. # 199088, shipped to Rex Firearms, 4-1953. Big Larry

When I took the stocks off for the photo it appears as though that was a 1st time removal. Can't prove it either way.

Only I, of course, know that they are absolutely original.:D

My guess is that they are.

I had another 4 incher years ago sporting the same stocks. Condition of the gun wasn't up to my standards so I let it fly.

They are beautiful and fortunately for me missing the 'doink' that those stocks get from the star.

This is a February, 1953 gun.

I will tag this one to be in the holding zone 'til the end. It's a lovely piece.
