I'm the proud owner of a M&P Shield 9 & love it however I'm contemplating purchasing a M&P 22 compact for use as a cost effective shooter at the range & possibly as a training tool for the wife. S&W doesnt make a conversion kit for the Shield's. That would be a cheaper alternative than purchashing a new gun. Sig offers .22lr conversions, why doesnt S&W?

At the very least you would need a slide, barrel, recoil spring, and mags.
I think it would be cheaper to just buy the M&P already set up for 22.

The M&P 22 has a fixed barrel, any conversion would have to be aftermarket for the shield.

I'm not aware of any conversion kits for the Shield. I have a Shield and a 22 Compact and they feel very similar in my hand. The Sig conversions list for $285+. That's more than I paid for my Compact from Palmetto State Armory several months ago.

Yeah I've been seriously thinking about just getting the M&P compact 22 since I already have a Shield 9... Just wanted something that looks/feels like my Shield but easier on the wallet with the ammo.
