I have a S&W22 revolver and would like help ID'ing it. It has a number # 135** stamped into the frame and crane. It also has a different number stamped into frame on bottom of grip. Which location is the serial number? I have a pic of gun in the gunsmithing section. My apologies for posting in two areas, but thought I might get more info in a section more dedicated to this era of manufacture. The six-digit number on the butt is the serial number. You should find the same number on the rear face of the cylinder and the flat underside of the barrel. If you give us the first four digits of the S/N we can make a good guess about the year of manufacture.

That feels like 1938 to me, with a slim chance of very late 1937.
New Pic posted in smithing section showing gun with correct (?) grips. Had a few to choose from some were to big and some were to small. Is the part that is pinned to the hammer called the sear, double action sear or something else? it protrudes to far forward on the unbroken hammer and doesn't lift the hammer soon enough to clear the trigger in double action. I would rather weld a new spur on the broken hammer then mess-up a vintage new condition hammer. Hopefully I will find a sear that can be adjusted to fit.
