.22 price ranges

That's $30/brick, hardly anything to brag about. 99 cents each is bragging rights and $1.99 is barely acceptable but $2.99 each, not so much... Federal #510 is their basic plinking ammo, nothing special. I would consider that too much for their Game-Shok or entry lever match ammo too but this is only their #510 Champion ammo.
Just being able to get 22's is an accomplishment, being fussy about what you want is going far. 6 cents a piece is ok with me, I shoot very few 22 rounds, mostly center fire that I load myself

Re: .22 LR Prices. It is what it is. No one refuses to buy gasoline b/c it's gone from $.19/gal. to $.50/gal. to $4.46/gal. back down to a now current $3.89/gal. We buy it and burn it in cars and trucks that cost many many times more than the cars and trucks that we used to buy. No one expects to pay $109 for a new M-10. I haven't seen a Ser. 70 for less than $200 since the late 70's. Happily .22 LR prices were for many years low. Everyone took them for granted. Then... cheap surplus ball ammo went away. Cheap gas (remember $.80/gal. for regular during Bush Administration?). Now... the new normal for ammo is that .22 LR ammo is no longer cheap. Yesterday at a LGS the owner offered to sell me 50 rds. of Rem. GB's at $5/50rds. I told him thanks but no thanks. It's not b/c I despise Rem. GB's or anything like that. It is b/c at that price I can order ammunition I prefer from online sources. Is the price high? Compared to a few years ago, yes. But, I can't reload .22 LR ammo. I can reload for my centerfire handguns. But when it comes to my .22 LR handguns, I have to buy the ammo. I enjoy my little 18-3 and my Marvel 1911 conversion to much to let them be paperweights. So, I'll just have to buy the .22 LR ammo as I can and where I can. For those who have been able to find it at just about once normal prices, good for you. More power to you. Hopefully others including myself will blunder on ammo at such prices. But I think those days are just about gone. The new normal is not going to be less than $25-30/brick... if it can be found at that price. More likely $40-50/brick will be where the market settles... for the time being. When the next scare happens, the price will move again... up. Very sadly this is going to very negatively depress new shooters coming into the sport. But that won't bother some who want to see the shooting sports eliminated. After all, we can all just take up knitting. Right?

Stopped by CTD on Monday and found plenty of .22LR available on the shelf. Only problem was the price was a little high. They had a 1000 round box for $499.95. After I got done laughing, I did find some 45 ACP at a reasonable price.
Stopped at a local Academy today and they had quite a bit of .22Lr available as well. Only thing was, they had Winchester 525 packs for $21.99. I didn't laugh at that one.

That's what I have been paying for the 525's and 16.99 for the 333's. I haven't been able to find any CCI lately.

Just picked these up at Dicks Sporting Goods for 2.99 each no limit

Not here in my part of texas. Here its still 2 box limit IFFFFFFFFF----any are still on the shelf when you get there.

Take that deal all day long. I'm teaching my daughter to shoot in 2014, not in the 70's when I learned. The little pile of .22 ammo I've accumulated this year has averaged 8-9 a round delivered. Its all about priorities, and I'd rather spend time with my daughter shooting than sitting around hoping, wishing and reminiscing. You have more fun, and gain more experience by pulling the trigger, than stomping your foot.

Were they gold plated? @ $499.95 / 1000?

Its one thing to want to get ammo on the cheap.
Its another thing to believe you're going to find 1970
ammo prices again.
99 cents ?????
Good luck with that search.
The dude found good ammo at 2.99 per 50 and most
everybody who needs some ammo to shoot would be
more than happy to pay that and rightfully so.
Like the line from the movie "Stripes" said,

$499.95 for 1000 rounds??? That's insane! CTD REALLY needs to change their name because, I'm pretty sure they are currently the highest price ammo dealer in the country. Come to think of it, that's probably why they have plenty. Nobody is stupid enough to pay that price.

$21.99 for 525 is much more reasonable. I may just have to drive down to Academy this weekend. It's not exactly local though. The closest one to me is about 20+ miles away.

It's a bummer when the only large box store in town where you live is Walmart because your choice is so limited and unless you want to get up at 6 AM and be standing line well before 7 AM everyday you won't get any for a decent price. Because the same old regulars are there every day buying up all the have and reselling it on the auction sites.

Exact situation here. I just won't buy the way overpriced stuff and I haven't seen any .22 at Walmart for maybe two years. However, I'm having fun with 9mm and .45.

Camp Perry National Pistol Matches,

The excellent ELEY TENEX target 22 LR ammo $199/500
$20 if you only needed a box of 50.

They had cases and cases of 5000 rounds if you
had a couple extra GRAND to spend $$$$$$$$$

WOW!!!!!!

Last week my wife scored three bricks of Federal 550 rounds for 19.97 each. First time the store had .22 ammo on the shelf for some time. Or are least when we were there....

Dunham's here has a stack of that at same price per 50. Not selling any. Latest in the display case is Winchester subsonic at $6/50. We'll see how long the 20 boxes last.

In a tight market the high cost producer sets the price. Since new capacity is coming on line, and the capital investment has to be recovered, I expect a nickle a round to be the new normal for bulk ammo once supply catches up with demand.

We just got a Dunham's here about a year ago and their prices on pretty much everything so far, suck swamp water.
If they don't take it down a notch or 2, they'll be out of business soon.

Oh.............and a nickle a round is FAR better than the 49 cents per round CTD is asking. That's higher than .45ACP ammo!

If you were a store and only sold 22 ammo, you would not last long. Either no one would buy it because of the price or you would never have enough to sell to stay in business. All the stores we shop have so much variety in products they don't care if you never find another box of 22 in your life time. They will still be in business for the long haul. Today I saw 22 ammo at .08, .12, and .16 per round. I passed on the .08 because it's priced too high and I don't really need it. I know he isn't making very much money selling at that price. He is only doing it to make some one that needs it very happy. But, like I said, when it runs out he and his cashiers will just ring up the next sale and life goes on. The same is true of producers of 22 ammo. Why would anyone produce a product that doesn't bring a large return? I really don't believe that 22 ammo will ever bring the same return as 38, 9, 40 and 45. Yes it's popular but nothing like the center fire ammo. My question is, are the sales of 22 lr guns (long and hand guns) slowing down? If the answer is yes, do the gun makers really care?

Couple of weeks ago at an auction I managed to get CCI mini mags, Green tag< and Stingers bought right all in one lot. I,ve been finding enough to keep me shooting and not depleting my inventory to badly.
Today the wife and I took off a road trip and went thru Fremont NE. She found a fabric store and I stopped in a local gun place. When I walked in I saw they had some rf stuff on the shelf, so I went to take a look... Had 3 boxes of 100 ct Mini Mags marked $24.99@. CCI standard velocity was $15.99 for 50.
22 mag rf was $29.99 for 50. I can't believe people have the balls to openly put those kind of prices out there. They also had some powder in stock...IMR4895 for $44.95/lb. I kept looking and everything in the store was blatantly over priced. I can't believe local people would even support this place.

Stopped in the local Gander Mountain this morning on the way to Sam's Club. Wanted to see where you pick up "ship to store" orders and check out the ammo supply. On the shelf were quite a few 325 round boxes of Federal Auto Match for $19.99, limit one. Since I have never shot this ammo, bought one box. That works out to just over 6.5 cents per round. Slightly less than CCI Mini-mags at eight cents per round they also had on the shelf.

Was very surprised to see many boxes of the 200 round CCI "Choot Em" 22 magnum ammo also on the shelf. I ordered one box of the 22mag online with ship to store yesterday, which is why I was curious where to pick it up. Was tempted to buy another box of the 22mag but didn't. 22 Mag has been very scarce around here for some time.

CCI Pistol Match $7.99 per 50

CCI Green Tag $15.99 per 100

I was in a sort of LGS yesterday to pick up some .38 Special and .45 Colt shells and he had CCI standard velocity 50 round boxes for $5.99 and CCI quiet 50 round boxes for $4.99.

I thought that was a little high but I have seen other places asking $6.99 for the standard velocity stuff.
