I need info on a model 22A .22lr. It was given to me by a friend. She never used the gun, but said she bought it "years ago". Here is the serial number UAU5XXX. I would like to know what year it was made. The gun is in pristine condition. Where can I get a manual to this gun? Also, I can't rack the slide. There is an orange plastic piece that goes up and straight out on the right side of the pistol. What is this? How much does this pistol weigh? Sorry about all of the questions, but I want to understand this 22A before I shoot it. One last thing. Where can I get magazines for it? Thank you for the help.

That orange plastic piece sticking out of the slide is an insert placed in it before it was shipped to keep the slide slightly out of battery during shipping, to keep the firing pin from impacting the barrel rim during shipping, and to serve as an indicator that there is not a round in the chamber. It has no purpose other than for shipping, and should be removed. In fact, the gun will not function without it. To remove it, move any safety to the off position (make sure there are no safety levers enganged in the lower part of the slide), pull the slide to the rear, and remove the orange plastic piece from the chamber. The pistol should function then. Hope this helps. BTW, I second the recommendation to move this from the revolver area of the forum to the semi-automatic section, you will probably get more response there.
