.22lr conversion

Sorry if this has been discussed prior, but have an issue I'm looking for others' opions.

Currently have a BCG conversion... love it. Accuracy with bulk ammo out to 50 yrds is OK. I'll fire 2 or 3 rounds of .223 at end of session to blow out any junk.

Was offered even trade of 15-22 moe edition for my 15 sport upper. Problem is that my upgrade upper remains on back order thru Smith for at least next 4 to 6 months (the PS piston version) for $809.

A) I may stay as is and be out $0 further and just cancel order for the upgrade upper.
B) Keep my Sport upper and make a dedicated .22 upper once the upgrade upper arrives... maybe even get a .22lr barrel
C) Make the trade and have 2 complete rifles when my upgrade upper arrives.

So, the question comes down to saving $800+ or not. And if not, which route to continue down. Have similar question in the smithing part of the forum but not getting any replies.

Is your .22LR conversion a complete conversion (barrel and all) or is it just the BCG conversion (standard AR15 barrel).

IMO, if u have just a BCG conversion, i'd find something with a dedicated .22 upper or just a dedicated .22 rifle such as an m&p 15/22. Your accuracy will be better in the end as the barrel will be twisted to run .22LR (1/16 twist). Most modern AR's are 1/9 and 1/7 twist which handle heavy bullets much better. The .22LR bullet doesnt weight enough to keep accuracy for them.

Now if you have a complete conversion already (including .22LR barrel). Then i wouldnt change anything at all. I'd keep the .22LR complete upper for when u want to have fun. And keep the 5.56 lower for when u want to shoot the bigger rounds.

I only have the BCG.

My deal was sweetened when offered the MOE 15-22 for my upper. I think I may go this route and wait the 6 monrhs for my piston upper.

Hell, I could actually look that I'm getting a moe 15-22 and a piston upper for my$800. Plus I could easily flip my BCG.

Going dedicated route I would still need to get a .22 barrel and sight furniture.

What sucks is that with current market prices, the 15-22 is running just as much as an upper. Plus, 3 months ago no one would even think of offering nearly $7-800 for a sport upper.

I know prices will normalize in about 3 months so I guess I should get the most out of a trade now while I can.
