**** Just found out that USPS Small Box Priority Mail is $10.65 anywhere in domestic USA so seems a shame to send only the Manson Reamer, but the lady at the post office cautioned AGAINST using small padded envelopes as they run through the high speed sorters and she thought too delicate for this tool, so I will be using USPS Small Box to get it to you, and request you do the same returning it.

If you need a tap handle just let me know when I PM you for contact info. The reamer drive lug measures .248" so a tap handle capable of holding 1/4" tap is fine. I know for fact that you do NOT need a lot of force, the reamer will not slip in these tap handles. Will add some pics with a reply, cause I don't know how to add any under a edit, with 5 already showing.

I am starting up a LOANER program for those of you that have 22LR revolvers with hard-to-load and/or "sticky" extraction issues.
These issues seem most predominant in modern 1960-present S&W's but sometimes observed in pre war Outdoorsman and K-22 Masterpiece.

The original loaner reamer on this Forum disappeared some years back so this is my way of "paying it forward". There is no cost to you other than return postage at your post office to get it back to me for sending to the next person on the list.

This is for a Manson 22 LR Cylinder Finisher Reamer. This reamer (p/n 513-051-220) is sized to 22LR Sporting specs per SAAMI 2015 standards. This means the cutting flutes are .2307" diameter at the recessed rim end of the charge hole, and .227" diameter at the muzzle end. There is a solid pilot which is self centering and the recessed rim cutting face is .288" diameter, perfect for just kiss cutting your recessed rim depth WITH extractor star installed.

This is the correct reamer for reaming (NOT cutting or machining any metal). You are simply "shaving" some minor metal dust and maybe very, very minute shavings called angel dust by old time machinists. I will send a small sketch with the reamer each time it goes out to show you the setup.

What do YOU have to have and do to get this reamer sent to you? Simple, 1. Have the proper thought process and attitude that you can do this yourself at home, equal to any gunsmith, it honestly is NOT rocket science!

2. Have on hand, or make sure you can get, A: a vise, mine shown is a 4" from Harbor Freight, cheap and big enough to do the job easily. B: a set of soft jaws, lead, plastic or enough leather strips to wrap your gun cylinder to protect from aggressive vise jaw scores and marked, mine are 4" gray plastic. C: A simple tap handle. There are several styles but you need something you can "twist" by hand to turn the reamer in a clockwise direction while exerting a very slight "force" into the chamber. D: PROPER cutting fluid. You must use this fluid to lubricate the cutting flutes of the reamer and the ID of the cylinder while "turning" the reamer. I use (and recommend) Tap Magic, or Vipers Venom, or any good high quality metal cutting fluid. Check the label to see that it does NOT contain 1,1,1 Trichlorethane which is bad stuff.

Goggle is your friend for some or all of the above, but the 4oz of Tap Magic is plenty for a cylinder or 2, but if more you probably need the 16 oz. size, either way PLEASE use proper cutting fluid as it will keep the reamer sharp a heck of a lot longer and the program will reach more people that way.

Another tip from Member drayks: NEVER turn the reamer BACKWARDS, meaning counter-clockwise as you are viewing down towards the recessed charge holes and extractor star.

Finally: HOW does the program work?

I send the reamer via USPS Priority Mail (cost about $5 to $10 max) with Tracking Number to the next person on the list. Once he/she is happy with their ream job and 22 fired cases drop in, and drop out they send it back to (my name and address and all will be in with the instructions) also via USPS Priority Main with T#.

When I send it out, I will post a reply to this very thread that "It is on the Way to "Screenname", and I will PM the next person on the list to have them send me their real name, address, e-mail and phone and it will then be sent to them, and the replies go on and on. We believe that this way the "Thread" with reamers CURRENT location will be known to me and no Member will have their private contact information out on the Forum.

Also since I have a copy of the original Dave Manson 22 LR Cylinder Finisher Reamer manufacturers drawing, I will precision measure (with my Mitutoyo Digital) the key diameters to "monitor wear" each time it goes out and comes back. I am confident that we can ream one heck of a lot of cylinders before wear is even noticeable. I've done 12 S&W and Narragansett did 3 so that is 90 holes and it still is NIB.:D

One BIG CAUTION: This is a FINISHER reamer, NOT a rough in, or rifle chamber cutter, so ONLY use it to cleanup 22 LR revolver cylinders that are on the tight side.

Hopefully this will be a better way than a forum "sticky", mainly because I have no clue about how to do stickies.:D

The "current" list as of Easter Sunday 04-20-25 is: screennames in order of time stamp received

1: TLawler, 2: Smoothshooter 3: HardtoHandle, 4: Kanewpadle, 5: Pasound, 6 Llance, 7: Flagaman, 8: fanninland

If you need the reamer just post a reply and I'll add you to the list which I'm keeping separate in my own files.

Best of luck to all, lets hope it stays alive until S&W starts changing their factory tooling reamers more often.

This is an incredibly generous offer by cmansguns to loan out a hard to get and expensive tool for those that need it. Please have the personal integrity to use it carefully and correctly, and return it in a timely manner. You will benefit greatly by using it. Please enable others to get the same opportunity.

Add some pics of tap handle if you need it

Per my UPDATE above to the Manson 22LR reamer LOANER Program, please let me know if you need a tap handle along with the reamer when it is your turn.

I'll send the one shown with my "old vise" but make sure you don't even attempt using one of these old, edge mount, hobby vises (2-1/2" jaw width). You can't add soft jaws, they mount to the edge of your work table, bench and the "working area" hangs over your feet which then catch all the shavings and cutting fluid.

Get a decent vise, at least 4".....Don't ask me how I know!:D

OK..22LR loaner reamer program off and running!

It's on the way to Tlawler today. Sent PM to Tom with tracking number. Also sent PM to HardToHandle, next on list for him to send me contact info.

We are off and running...:D

PS: added a couple more to the list today, Ken158, sjmjax, and 1Celticfozzie....don't worry we';; gwet to ya.

Please add me to the list. This is a very generous offer, one I’m not surprised to see on this site- thankyou

Please bump me a couple of notches down the list.
I am still about 4 weeks from getting released to go the 300 miles back home while being held for observation for a liver transplant. Don’t want to delay it for any of the others. Will keep you apprised.

This is a great thing that you are doing Cmansguns! I do not need this service currently, but would be happy to send you a little $ to offset future shipping costs.

I will also say this to keep it in people's thought process. NEVER TURN THE REAMER COUNTER-CLOCKWISE! Lubrication is your friend. I went really slow, plenty of cutting fluid, constantly pulling the reamer out and cleaning it with an old toothbrush to remove the shavings/metal dust.

A fellow member here was kind enough to loan me his reamer in Sept. 2022 when the original loaner one disappeared. I used it to do my friend's 617 ten shot cylinder and my model 63 six shot cylinder. Amazing the difference it makes to the ease of loading rounds and ejecting empties with no negative to accuracy. I used a bottle of Oatey dark thread cutting oil purchased from Home Depot, located in the plumbing aisle.

I would like to add a comment on how I did the reaming on my cylinders. I used a couple of fired .22 shells to fill a few of the open holes on the cylinder while reaming. The shells hold the extractor star tightly to prevent any wiggle of the star while reaming. Just my $0.02...

UPDATE MAY 8, 2025!! This program has really taken off, and now, thanks to the generosity of Member "Ameridaddy" (Dick Webb) who lives near me, we now have two (2) Manson 22LR cylinder finisher reamers in play for this program. Also I remembered my old "flea bay" selling days and reactivated my USPS account which gives me a small discount on pre-printed Click & Ship labels so it now only costs me $9.30 to send the reamer, tap handle, and instruction sheet out to you folks. I have to say many thanks to those that are including my postage costs when they send it back. This is a win-win for all of us and I'm already shipping to #5 of 14 on the original list.

I still need some information from Members still on the list, and I don't want to choke up Forum direct message boxes and posts and reply's so I would ask the following Members to please e-mail me at [email protected], or text to 804-307-7110 with your real name, full address, your e-mail, and a phone number. The reason for the e-mail and phone is that with USPS Click n Ship I can add those and you will automatically get the Tracking updates right up to delivery, which saves me from having to DM you through the Forum.

It is taking about 5 days to get to you, 5 days back to me, and whatever reaming time in between, so now with two reamers/tap handles in play I'm hoping to double the through-put to Members that need it.

Reports so far have been great....live rounds drop in, fired empty's drop out when gun is inverted...........just the way you would have expected it to work from the factory! Remember: you are NOT increasing the diameter of your cylinder charge holes, you are just "shaving them slightly to get them UP TO SAAMI 22LR Sporting size. The reamer(s) are exactly the SAAMI 22LR Sporting diameters so again use of the reamer cannot possibly make your cylinder holes any larger than they should be.

Some Members reported that the reamer "slipped" in my tap handle when starting to engage in the charge hole. Solution is simple....these are "collet" style tap handles, meaning you just need to tighten the heck out of the threaded collet after inserting the reamer drive lug end into the tap handle. You may need channel locks, or slip joint pliers and "get down on it" but don't worry...you cannot "over-tighten". You may need the same tools to break it back down after finishing.

OK....Thanks for listening and please remember for the following Members to e-mail or text me with their info: I shipped yesterday to #4 HardToHandle, and will ship to #5 kanewpadle later today, but need info from others below

6. Pasound: (have name & address, no e-mail or phone)
