**** Just found out that USPS Small Box Priority Mail is $10.65 anywhere in domestic USA so seems a shame to send only the Manson Reamer, but the lady at the post office cautioned AGAINST using small padded envelopes as they run through the high speed sorters and she thought too delicate for this tool, so I will be using USPS Small Box to get it to you, and request you do the same returning it.
If you need a tap handle just let me know when I PM you for contact info. The reamer drive lug measures .248" so a tap handle capable of holding 1/4" tap is fine. I know for fact that you do NOT need a lot of force, the reamer will not slip in these tap handles. Will add some pics with a reply, cause I don't know how to add any under a edit, with 5 already showing.
I am starting up a LOANER program for those of you that have 22LR revolvers with hard-to-load and/or "sticky" extraction issues.
These issues seem most predominant in modern 1960-present S&W's but sometimes observed in pre war Outdoorsman and K-22 Masterpiece.
The original loaner reamer on this Forum disappeared some years back so this is my way of "paying it forward". There is no cost to you other than return postage at your post office to get it back to me for sending to the next person on the list.
This is for a Manson 22 LR Cylinder Finisher Reamer. This reamer (p/n 513-051-220) is sized to 22LR Sporting specs per SAAMI 2015 standards. This means the cutting flutes are .2307" diameter at the recessed rim end of the charge hole, and .227" diameter at the muzzle end. There is a solid pilot which is self centering and the recessed rim cutting face is .288" diameter, perfect for just kiss cutting your recessed rim depth WITH extractor star installed.
This is the correct reamer for reaming (NOT cutting or machining any metal). You are simply "shaving" some minor metal dust and maybe very, very minute shavings called angel dust by old time machinists. I will send a small sketch with the reamer each time it goes out to show you the setup.
What do YOU have to have and do to get this reamer sent to you? Simple, 1. Have the proper thought process and attitude that you can do this yourself at home, equal to any gunsmith, it honestly is NOT rocket science!
2. Have on hand, or make sure you can get, A: a vise, mine shown is a 4" from Harbor Freight, cheap and big enough to do the job easily. B: a set of soft jaws, lead, plastic or enough leather strips to wrap your gun cylinder to protect from aggressive vise jaw scores and marked, mine are 4" gray plastic. C: A simple tap handle. There are several styles but you need something you can "twist" by hand to turn the reamer in a clockwise direction while exerting a very slight "force" into the chamber. D: PROPER cutting fluid. You must use this fluid to lubricate the cutting flutes of the reamer and the ID of the cylinder while "turning" the reamer. I use (and recommend) Tap Magic, or Vipers Venom, or any good high quality metal cutting fluid. Check the label to see that it does NOT contain 1,1,1 Trichlorethane which is bad stuff.
Goggle is your friend for some or all of the above, but the 4oz of Tap Magic is plenty for a cylinder or 2, but if more you probably need the 16 oz. size, either way PLEASE use proper cutting fluid as it will keep the reamer sharp a heck of a lot longer and the program will reach more people that way.
Another tip from Member drayks: NEVER turn the reamer BACKWARDS, meaning counter-clockwise as you are viewing down towards the recessed charge holes and extractor star.
Finally: HOW does the program work?
I send the reamer via USPS Priority Mail (cost about $5 to $10 max) with Tracking Number to the next person on the list. Once he/she is happy with their ream job and 22 fired cases drop in, and drop out they send it back to (my name and address and all will be in with the instructions) also via USPS Priority Main with T#.
When I send it out, I will post a reply to this very thread that "It is on the Way to "Screenname", and I will PM the next person on the list to have them send me their real name, address, e-mail and phone and it will then be sent to them, and the replies go on and on. We believe that this way the "Thread" with reamers CURRENT location will be known to me and no Member will have their private contact information out on the Forum.
Also since I have a copy of the original Dave Manson 22 LR Cylinder Finisher Reamer manufacturers drawing, I will precision measure (with my Mitutoyo Digital) the key diameters to "monitor wear" each time it goes out and comes back. I am confident that we can ream one heck of a lot of cylinders before wear is even noticeable. I've done 12 S&W and Narragansett did 3 so that is 90 holes and it still is NIB.
One BIG CAUTION: This is a FINISHER reamer, NOT a rough in, or rifle chamber cutter, so ONLY use it to cleanup 22 LR revolver cylinders that are on the tight side.
Hopefully this will be a better way than a forum "sticky", mainly because I have no clue about how to do stickies.
The "current" list as of Easter Sunday 04-20-25 is: screennames in order of time stamp received
1: TLawler, 2: Smoothshooter 3: HardtoHandle, 4: Kanewpadle, 5: Pasound, 6 Llance, 7: Flagaman, 8: fanninland
If you need the reamer just post a reply and I'll add you to the list which I'm keeping separate in my own files.
Best of luck to all, lets hope it stays alive until S&W starts changing their factory tooling reamers more often.
