I've started looking for a donor frame to piece together a mongrel...

I'm thinking a hybridized 960 or 949 might be interesting.

I would plan on purchasing a complete J frame revolver in the configuration you desire. Building up a bare frame can be a challenge especially if you do not have a good selection of select to fit parts!

Be aware the need to match cylinder to frame window size. New magnum frame with new cylinder lug design is larger.

I have converted 2 Model 60 J frames to 9mm using Model 940 cylinders. They are fun and snappy to shoot!

Good luck.

I've got a pretty good supply of parts and I learned a few tricks from a gentleman who used to build PPC guns back in the day. He even did some bluing work for Ron Power using the same salts Winchester used at the time.

Your right about the stripped frame... easier to get a beater donor gun and to do finish work after the mechanics are right.
