I just bought a S&W model 242 (now to wait for delivery!), and looking for holsters. I'm guessing they'd fit holsters for 686+ 2.5" / Performance Center holsters, but I'm not seeing many holster companies listing the 242 as an option.

I'm probably looking to grab a leather owb holster from Kramer, Simply Rugged, or maybe Galco.

Also, I'm interested in swapping the front sight out for a fiber optic or an XS sight. Does anyone know the proper sight size?

Any help would be great!

That gun was only made for a year or two and that was over 30 years ago! I'm pretty sure that Kramer can make a holsters for that specific gun (they made one for my 5-shot 296), but you'll wait 6 months or more and pay a healthy price. Most holsters made for a 2-1/2" 7-shot L frame should work fine.

A holster made for a 2-1/2" 6-shot L frame may work, depending on how rigid the leather is and the amount of forming/boning.

Does anyone know off hand whether this model uses a standard K/L frame pinned sight that's normally on the barrel rib, or if it uses the J frame sight like other Centennial designs? The sight measures about 0.147 on my calipers, which is about what J frame sights are at. I'm just not sure about the portion that goes into the groove.

Edit: S&W Customer service gave me the part number. Even though they said it was a L frame sight, the part number was the J-Frame ramp sight, as I suspected.
