Hi guys,

So I picked up my 25-2 this evening and I'm very pleased with it. One surprise, that did not show up in the gunbroker photos (at least not to me) is that the trigger - a wide target trigger -- has been blued. No not case hardened, but blued...

I'm pretty sure this is not how it left the factory, but I like it. It's extremely smooth - almost like it has been "dipped". One can see the serrations in the top of the trigger, but they are either filed off or completely coated by the bluing below. Not the greatest pics perhaps but despite the flash it appears totally black (blue) except for the small chip which shows up.

Is/Was this common for target shooters? I've never heard of such a thing? Thoughts?

Thanks!

Todd

Yup that is not how it left the Factory but triggers are still available after-market should you change your mind.

Agree with the above comments. Also, the factory Target triggers have a pronounced "step" at the top where they widen out to .500", so I am guessing this one was narrowed at the same time the grooves were removed and it was refinished.

I'm sure no expert, but it looks to me like someone hated the grooved trigger and ground/sanded the grooves off. You can still see a bit of the grooves at the top of the trigger. They then reblued the trigger as suggested above, with cold blue.

I was tempted to do the same thing with the first Model 19 I bought. That thing just chewed my finger up shooting double action.

My first thought was that the whole gun was refinished but the trigger has been smoothed so maybe that's all that was done. I like the wide, smooth trigger and installed them on several of my revolvers. I would look for a replacement trigger in the style you prefer..

Someone has modified that trigger to accommodate double action shooting. The wide target trigger was intended for primarily single action use. Sometime in the early '80's, S&W came out with a smooth trigger that was wider than standard but narrower than the target. 3/8" I believe. As I recall it was named the "combat" trigger width.

My thoughts as well. I'd say the gun was refinished. A couple spots within the trigger guard appear to be "flaked" off, not "worn"

It looks to me like those flaked spot are where the previous owner got careless with his file. I would like to see more pics of the gun as well, 25s are great guns and getting harder to find.

A file... not sure what it would be doing there..??

Looks more like whatever was used to prop the gun up damaged the finish. Maybe a file..

The trigger grooves have definitely been filed down....not uncommon for guns used in fast DA shooting. Also the trigger and the gun have clearly been refinished poorly. Hope you didn't pay a lot for this gun; send it back if you can.

The Texas Ranger commemorative Model 19 came out in 1973 and it came standard with the .312" wide smooth trigger. It was referred to as the "Ranger" trigger.

Looking at the "file" marks I wonder if a Dremel was used? The flaking is a different problem.
