All I have to offer is I bought a like new in box 25-5 45 Colt for $1,250 last year. Same era but not sure which brings more. Also mine is a 8 3/8 barrel. Shorter barrel brings more cash. not Shure of the + - of a ACP.

I would say you did well. The one the OP wants we do not have any clue of the condition or barrel length because he has not said nor posted any photos.

Happy as pig in slop with mine. Found it at a show few years back was real dirty, had a scratch on side of top strap and a crushed ejector rod cap. Talked to guy down brought it home took 1 1/2 days of cleaning and new ejector rod cap. Shoots almost as well as a match 1911. Loves RCBS 201 grn. KT over 6 grains of Unique.

Not Apples to Apples but, I've had a shooter grade 1917 Brazilian Contract since the mid 1980's and a 5" 625 Series of 1989 since the early 90's. The good prices from back then are considered "Thievery" today. For the 1917 I use a cheap Nylon Uncle Mike's holster when I carry in the woods. (I consider it a long nosed "Mountain Gun.") I keep 3 full moon clips loaded with my SD Load. I have about 225 full moons total (I bought bags of 100 from Brownell's) and keep 80/90 loaded with my practice load. There are very nice hand-made carriers that fit inside a 50 Cal ammo can. but you get more in just dumping them in and shaking them down!

I use the same ammo in my automatics. But if you choose a dedicated load for each gun, be sure you can tell them apart, at least in storage!

Clip loading and unloading tools are basically almost a necessity. But they are a personal preference, so take some time and explore your options.

I'm always on the look-out for another 45 caliber wheel gun! or automatic for that matter!

If the price is right, you should snag that 25-2! You didn't mention the condition, and condition is everything as far as value is concerned. My minty 6-1/2" bbl. 25-2 (N139297) is a little older than yours (1973), but it's one of my favorite N-frames. .45 ACP is fun and easy to shoot, and the 25-2 is very accurate- it often goes to the range along with my WWI Model of 1917. I use moonclips in both. Does the revolver come with a mahogany presentation case and goodies, because that may raise the value a little? For just the revolver, I would expect to pay around $1K if condition is VG to Excellent (it's hard to find any nice N-frame for under $1K these days). Maybe $1200 with case and goodies. Other Forum members will probably be along with their recommendations. Good luck with your bargaining.

No photos because the shop does not permit them and I like this dealer, so no need to upset him by flaunting his policy.

That’s too rich for me, but I am used to “the old days” prices and barely in touch with modern day. I’m surprised to see a 25-2 for much more than $850. You could always start with your low ball and have more fifties handy. Fifties might be more dramatic than hundreds.

You’re wise to follow his wishes about photography. Not sure why he’d object, but it’s his circus.

Almost five years ago, I asked this forum for an insurance replacement valuation on my minty Model of 1955(25-2), SN N4584XX. Opinions ran from $1000 to $1200. Was told DOB '78 or '79.

The S&W Mod 25 .45 ACP will shoot its best with .454 diameter cast bullets. Compared to running .452 cast out of the same 1970's vintage the accuracy at 50 yards improved from running "minute of basketball" with .452's to "minute of tennis ball" or smaller with the .454's.

I'd expect to see a nice 25-2, in excellent condition, go for $1100 or so, likely more.

I gave $1350 for N379xxx (shipped Feb 1977) a year ago or so here on the Forum. In great shape, no box, etc. Not sure how good of a deal it was, but I'm happy with the purchase. Fun shooter -

That is maybe a bit high, but there are fewer 25-2s around than other calibers, at least in my neighborhood. The last one I saw for sale was at least that high, and that was several years ago. If you really want it.......

My feeling is that it is better to pay a little too much now, rather that spend undetermined amounts of money on gas, gun show entry, meals and time chasing a gun for a few dollars less. When you finally find another one, it is priced just as high! Just think how many movie prices, popcorn and coke it takes to make up the difference! Meanwhile you have the gun in hand for your pleasure, 24/7! Several times, I have spent a couple hundred more than I thought the gun was worth, most of them are now worth 2-3 times what I paid for them.
