Recently scored this former Dekalb County GA PD issued 25-5. Service trigger, Semi-target hammer. Will qualify with him soon. Has the "narrow" throats; DKPD had the cylinders replaced.
that is a great gun. i have one of the guns from there and they do have the proper throats in the cylinder. the one i have was carried by the chief Burgess.
It took me years to find a nice one that I could afford . I finally got one for $600 a couple of yrs back . It has been everything I wanted . I don't hotrod my 45LC's . Alliant powder company has some great load data that has provided me with everything I wanted for that caliber . Their Blue Dot load , about 13grs is deadly accurate and has all the power I need . I cast and shoot the Keith 255 gr swc , (H&G 501 if memory is correct) . Using the same bullet , 6.5gr of Red Dot is another real nice load . 8 grs of Ramshot Zip is real nice soft shooting load yet carries well further out with plenty of power . That is the only load my BIL will shoot out of his Uberti clone . After shooting this load he refused to have anymore loads with Unique powder . Have fun reloading for it , best of luck .
Southeastern supply in Decatur GA did the trade ins when they went to the Berettas; my best friend bought one from them in the mid 80s for 350. We sold it back and forth many times over the years. It's currently stoked with some of the actual stock of duty loads, some Winchester Silvertips, that were given to a co worker who had a friend with access to the DKPD armory. I wound up with several of the old style 20 round boxes from DKPD. It now has some factory target stocks with speed loader cut out.
I have a Model 25-2 that was one of the prototype guns for DeKalb Co. according to markings on the box and the seller, Lyle Larkworthy. It has a 4 inch barrel with centered rollmarks and the short cylinder S&W used on .45 Colt revolvers before the Model 25-5. Roy Jinks wrote in his letter that S&W had produced N frame .45 Colt barrels and cylinders but he didn't think the factory did the conversion, but a S&W service center in Monrovia, CA likely did the work (who's name I forget) as their name was on the box, too.
st regis, is your gun marked "DCPD" anywhere on it? I have a unmarked 25-5 that I believe was DCPD gun. I purchased mine used from Franklin's shortly after DCPD traded for the Berettas.
Well, the 25 had an issue, endshake. So....got a couple of the .002 shims, watched the video, read the book, put them in, now its perfect! Now to take to the range for qualifying! A keeper!
I just stumbled on to a 25-5. It is a pinned 4in with the 3 T's. If it was in a box I would believe it to be brand new. Comparing to my 25-7 the throats are a little large. This is to be expected on these old pinned models. I reload so it's not that big of an issue if I decide to shoot it.
