I got into wanting a 25-5 in .45/c due to a DPD OFficer I was friendly with who happened to carry one as his duty gun. Late 1990s.
I have a 25-5 , 83/8” that I got on a trade 35 yrs ago. It doesn’t have a pinned barrel and pinned front sight blade. Not crazy about 83/8” barrels but this particular gun is outstanding shooter. I sold a 6” and 4” in last 5yrs that had both pinned barrel and front sight. Neither shot good enough to get excited about. I’m not saying they shot bad, just not as well as the newer one. Have tuned to shoot 242gr WC at 800fps presently. Have had them tuned on 250gr RNFP cast too. Not much experience with jacketed.
I just got another 25-5, 83/8” same vintage as my keeper. Both very nice condition. Good trade bait for shooter barrel model.

Back when I was a mechanic for my city, we had a Patrol Sergeant who carried a 25-5. Absolutely refused to give it up when the city changed to semi-autos. The Chief finally had to give him a direct order to switch to the then issue Beretta 92. But he still kept the 25-5 in the car all the time.

The throats on mine are .454", but it shoots as accurately as the Uberti SA's I have at similar distances, and they have longer barrels. I'm really getting into .45 Colt. BTW, the target was done from a rest.

Some nice guns in this thread ! I bought a 25-9 TT/TH used about 35 years ago for as I recall $350. No factory stocks, box, papers or tools. Came with a pair of Target stocks that I later found out were collectible “Bear Hug” grips by Decon Deason - a favorite of John Taffin. I also found out through this forum that the -9 had the durability enhancements so all in all I guess it was a good purchase !

I bought my 4" blue M25-5 NIB in June 1980. I round butted it, added Hogue grips and carried it as a duty weapon for a year or so. I sold it to my LT at the police department.
In 2008, I got in touch with the LT and asked if you wanted to sell it back to me. He agreed and I got it back for $350. He passed away in 2009.
This one isn't for sale at any price.

I have a Model 25-2, two of them to be specific. I also have several of the Model 1950, 45 ACP revolvers and perhaps a smattering of 1917s and more than a few more modern ACP S&W revolvers. Here are images of some of them.
I have not fired the Model 25-5 in, what, 3 decades? Converting the Model 25-5 is something I can easily do. I have offered to trade but never found any interest.

I bought the revolver new around 1982, and the extra cylinder came with it. I did not install the 45 Colt cylinder until 2009. When it was installed the revolver became something different - no need for moon clips any more. It was pretty accurate with 45 ACP ammo - it is really accurate now.
